Hi there,

I have been running my tests on the iOS Simulator for a few days and they run at a good speed.  This morning, I switched to run my tests on an iPhone 5 and they are significantly slower (over 1 second per step).

Does anyone know if this is expected or if there is a way of speeding things up?

Cheers,

Charlie

I have the same problem: tests run fast on the iOS simulator, tests run slow on the device.

My guess would be without delay works only on an emulator

That's I believe true, not to mention the extra latency involved in moving data across a wire rather than in memory.

I have noticed that performance is not great with real devices. Something to think about - maybe open a ticket on github for an enhancement to increase performance so we can track effort against this?

Hi Charlie,

Can you please tell us the steps for running the test on physical device? We are currently running our test on iOS Simulator and want to make them work on physical device.

Many thanks.

Hi Mayank,

Here are the instructions I have put together.  Hope they help:

Using iOS Real Devices
  1. Install app onto iOS Device (using Xcode)
  2. Get device UDID (search app store for 'UDID' to get an app that provides this) and get bundleID of app (see app info.plist)
  3. Open Appium > Uncheck the 'App Path' checkbox > Check and enter the 'UDID' and 'BundleID' boxes > Press Launch > Press 'i' > This will load the Appium Inspector
  4. Make sure you select a device build in App Path and have 'App Path', 'UDID' and 'BundleID' all selected and filled in.

Cheers, Charlie

Hi Jason,

I have raised an issue regarding the slow speed: https://github.com/appium/appium/issues/754
