Free plans do not allow custom domains, only paid plans do. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey Lucas,

Since when has this been in effect? Just a month or so ago I was able to add a custom domain to my free account. I deleted my app by mistake today, and when I created another instance and tried to apply the same custom domain, I received the same error.

I had the same thing happen to me. I just added a few custom domains to my free account just days ago. I'm glad I got it in before this change!

It would have been nice to get a notice of this change.

We disabled custom domains on free recently due to severe abuse that was causing DOS and reliability issues. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I just can't help but not understand how you can cut yourself from so many people. I admit, the free hosting was interesting, but there is absolutley no chance I will spend 50$ a month for all the little website I run just to be able to link my domain name. Can't we have a little plan for a few bucks a month with this possibility. Not everyone is a big business able to pay 50$.

I really do not understand how we go from free to 50$ for an upgrade...

Sorry for the rambling, but with this new pricing, I am out of appfog with any new website...

I concur with the above post. I need to be able to link my domain name to my app fog app. However the jump from $0 - $50 is just too steep. Will most likely have to find another paas provider.

Hi everyone,

I am very sorry for the change but we had been getting severe abuse of our free plan which was causing reliability issues for our free and paid customers. We have and continue to ban abusers as we identify them, but it was happening faster than we could shut it down which is why we had to make these changes. I know it is a big inconvenience, but our goal is to create the most reliable and robust PaaS for serious developers and we were not able to reach that goal with the abuse patterns that we were dealing with.

Perhaps you could require a valid credit card be linked for free accounts to limit the ability for abusers to set up dozens of accounts?

Hi Lucas,
I understand that you need to solve the reliability issues.
But it would be helpful if there is an easier way out for developers other than paying $50.
That's a huge difference.
Perhaps you could have a different plan (something like $10) to add custom domains or you can even charge per custom domain(something like $2 per domain).
We really need an easier way out of this.

Custom domain names are must if we need to run even a small app with just two pages.... I am switching back to Heroku which still provides support to add custom domains for my apps.

a more customizable plan is required.
