Is someone from MIT reading this forum?

I downloaded version 1.4 of Gary's personal server (see also here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/ai4a/Kb87dN2uMLo) which is based on the MIT version V129 to run it on Windows7 64 bit and Java 6u35 and get a fatal error: No fixid list found. See complete log below.

Is this really a fatal error or can this be ignored? How could that be fixed?
Thanks in advance!

Taifun

Hi Taifun,

if you are not planning to open that server to other users then you
should be fine.
As far as I know that code relates to users that have multiple
accounts(or account names).
Feel free to report it though.

cheers,
José

Good input Jos.

I am just looking at the Personal Server for now. V1.4 ai4a should work as a Public or Private server, but I have not tested.
All V1.4 does is add running on Windows to Linux/Mac and up the size for apps from 5Mb to the limit for Android apps.

You seem to be running out of memory:
[java] Could not reserve enough space for object heap

is it an old computer, or are you allocating a small amount of memory
to the process?

Hi Jos

 I am using a lenovo ThinkCenter ( 2010)with Intel Core 2 Due 3.0GHz  2G RAM
.

 Windows 8 Enterprise x64.

when I build the source code ,the same thing happen.

the solution was change the source code, the main.java file. look at line 40.  This is where the childProcessRamMb is set. I changed it from 2048 to 1500 and this error was fixed.

But  now what should I do with building server. there is no way I can change . where I can control allocate the amount of memory to the process.

cheers,

You can play with memory allocation when launching the build server
from the command line; have a look at this link:

The error about no fixid file is spurious. You can ignore it (I shouldn't have coded the log entry as a fatal error, it isn't).

For reference, the fixid file is a hack to deal with some people whose account in Google is in one case but their account in App Inventor is in another case (!!). We don't know how this happened, but the fixid file is a mapping that maps from one account to another to deal with it.

I believe the key error here is the "Could not reserve enough space for object heap" and "Could not create the Java Virtual Machine". Looks like the machine you are running the build server on does not have enough virtual memory.

Howdy David

When I tested on a 32 it PC with less memory, I had problems with 512 Mb. I got it to run around 700Mb but it would not run all the time.
That was Centos.

Did you try Linux?

-----
the ANT_OPTS do not have anything to do with running the buildserver.

How are you running the buildserver?
Are you using a script? What is in the script?

and

You can look in the ai4a groups for examples that set memory for the buildserver. The comments mostly have to do with the 32 bit version but the info will apply to the 64 bit version. Look for "childProcessRamMb". https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!forum/ai4a

Hi Gary

I am not using  ai4a.  I just build from the original mit source code on the github.

And when I launch the build server .

    cd C:\app inventor\buildserver

     ant RunLocalBuildServer

As you see.  So I use ant to runlocalbuildserver.

  Maybe I do sth wrong?

ai4a uses the original mit source code from github. It works in Windows.

You could use it to verify that App Inventor will work on your PC
and then do whatever you want!!!

    cd C:\app inventor\buildserver

     ant RunLocalBuildServer

Not wrong, just that the parameters you gave for ant do not carry over to the buildserver.

The windows cmd file that runs the buildserver could use less memory.
Could, no guarantee :-)

Here is an example for a 64bit OS running the buildserver that was built using the source from MIT's github for their V132 with some changes by ai4a to get it to build apps on Windows 7. https://sourceforge.net/projects/ai4a-configs/files/V1.4.5/V1.4.5A/launch-buildserver.cmd

The script is not fancy, it just works
and has been used by many over the last year+.

You want to build an App Inventor server. I understand.

The ai4a group includes folks that are running App Inventor on their own computers. They may... have more information on getting your server running that this group, which is interested in the source. Once you are up, you can never go back to the ai4a group - or hang around and share your experience with others.

I think it is great that you are trying to get the server running. Keep it up!

Hi Gary

I change to another PC with Win7 32bit.

And I also try ai4a V1.4.6 ,the app inventor service is fun. but when I launch the buildserver by using launch-buildserver.cmd. the script run and close by itself.

And  When I check ai4a in the folder of buildserver. I just see the folder for Lib  , is it need other folder as build and src ?

maybe I should try the personal server. did I missing some sth?

Hi Jos

   Thanks for yourhelp

Finally get to the next level. the solution is set --childProcessRamMb 1470

The memory problem fixed ,then the jarsigner problem occur in 95%.

   I check the log message:

   => AndroidManifest.xml
   => resources.arsc
  C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp\1360127983749_0.9131278616247085-0\youngandroidproject\..\build\tmp\classes.dex => classes.dex

I think the key is :YAIL compiler - could not find jarsigner. but I truelly have the jarsigner in the PATH and Java JDK :C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_23\bin
