You made two mistakes.

atan is different from tan, sin, cos.

The leading "a" stands for "the angle whose ... is."

So it takes a ratio and gives you an angle,

the opposite from tan, which takes an angle

and gives you a ratio.

So with atan, the radian conversion should happen 

to the output of atan, not to the input.

The second mistake was posting to this quiet lonely library, instead of to the main support board.

Thank you! That was it. Now correct, it was only changing the atan conversion for degrees to radians.
