Bible study: Sunday Feb. 9, March 1 & 9 at 6:15pm
We will continue with the study of the book of Daniel on the Sunday's listed. On Feb. 9 we will read the third chapter of Daniel. This chapter has played an influential part in my life on a personal level and is one of my favorite passages in scripture from which I continue to learn.
Talk on discipleship with friends of RCIA: Feb. 10, 7:00pm
In our parish there is a group called Friends of RCIA that prays for and supports those who are considering entrance into the Church. We have a monthly social with the RCIA students followed by a talk on an aspect of our Faith. I would love to see many people come and support this program in our parish. The talk will be on discipleship and the three offices of Christ as Priest, Prophet and King.
Thomistic lectures: Feb. 15, 9:30am in DC
We are very blessed to have the Dominican House of Studies so close by in Washington DC. Occasionally they host lectures that are open to the public and open up some of the intellectual projects of some of the most noted theologians in the church. Please see the attached flyers below (Holy scripture and Public Conference) for more information. This is a great opportunity to learn more about our faith.
Avila Society: Feb. 16, 7:30pm
A woman's group for spiritual formation, we will look at Pius XII's letter to large families. It is a letter expressive of the the beauty of the church's teaching with regards to life. I think it is good for us to read this letter in order to form a fully pro-life way of thinking in line with our mother and teacher the church. I've attached it below.
St. Gregory Guild: Feb. 16, 7:30pm
A men's group for spiritual formation, we will meet in the rectory for the rosary and discussion of some passages found in St. Augustines confessions. We will look at chapter 5, book 3 and seek to learn how to apply the lessons learned there to our own lives.
Brunch and National Gallery of Art: Feb. 23 following 11am Mass
Our Monthly Brunch outing will take place after the 11am Mass on Feb. 23rd. Following brunch, we will take a little pilgrimmage to the National Gallery of Art to visit the Byzantine Art exhibit. This is a unique opportunity and free to the public. Please meet in the parking lot after the 11am Mass and we will carpool both to brunch and the art exhibit.
Morning of Recollection: March 8, 9am-1pm.
See the attached flyer. Begin Lent on the right foot, seeking to encounter the living God by taking time out for a morning of recollection. The theme will be putting on the armor of Christ. Please invite your friends and others as well to the morning of recollection.
Marian Consecration: May 13, 7:30pm
The Cathedral of St. Thomas More will celebrate Solemn Marian vespers and offer an opportunity to consecrate ourselves the Blessed Virgin on May 13. This most excellent devotion was recommended and promote by John Paul II, Maximilian Kolbe, Mother Theresa, as well as our current Holy Father who consecrated His papacy to our Lady of Fatima. I will need help in making this a reality so please let me know if you are able to assist Christ and this parish in this holy devotion.
Thank you for reading this, sorry for its great length. Let us encourage one another in holiness giving glory to God in our every thought, word and deed.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Weber
