[Title] Learning Foreign Language By Meditation Method

[Introduction] No matter how terrible or how perfect you are at foreign
languages, optimism, self-confidence, pleasure and passion are what
Professor Lê Khánh Bằng, creator of the strange studying method
called ‘Learning Foreign Language By Meditation Method’, can bring
to you.

*)What is Meditation?
In religion, Meditation is considered as a way to reach a state of
spirit by removing every tiny thoughts in our head and make it
completely empty. In this studying method, students only have to remove
all miscellaneous thoughts and completely concentrate on the subject.
This is called ‘dynamic meditation’. Some students prefer to call
this method ‘learning foreign language by high concentration
method’.
Completely concentrating on something is actually more difficult than
you might thought. We just always have miscellaneous thoughts all the
time. And it`s not easy to change this natural habit. However this is
also depends on every individual.

*)The Science Foundation
It has been proved by scientists that there is a foreign language
center (FLC) and a mother language center (MLC) in a human`s brain.
Those centers in a child`s brain is harmonious so they learn languages
very fast and effectively. As we grow up, FLC is increasingly inhibited
by MLC. And we must stimulate and strengthen our FLC to study foreign
languages efficiently.

With this high concentration method, while studying foreign language,
we stimulate the FLC and inhibit MLC. Gradually, the FLC gets stronger
and stronger. Relying on that, students can memorize words better and
can apply the knowledge very efficently.

The process here includes five inward steps and five outward steps.
During these steps, we must try to concentrate on the lessons and
mustn`t have any miscellaneous thoughts.

The five inward steps are:
1: After relaxing, speak out very loudly 3-5 times (accurately and
slowly) to strongly stimulate our MLC.
2: Speak out loudly and faster 3-5 times.
3: Move your lips with sounds and intonation and quietly 3-5 times with
highest speed.
4: Read in your mind, don`t move your lips, with a higher speed.
5: Read in your mind many times with high and increasing speed (for
example read the alphabet in 2-3 seconds)

The five outward steps are:
1: Imagine the word in your head.
2: Move your lips.
3: Speak out with very high speed.
4: Speak out louder, with accuracy and high speed.
5: Write in high concentration on a paper with highest speed, at least
two lines/min

This course lasts for 5 weeks, 1 class per week. During this time,
students have to practise 1-2 hours every day to maintain and
strengthen the FLC. And at the end of the course, students will have a
stable FLC in their brain. We can consider it as a magnet that will
attracts, keeps and arranges the knowledge in a ‘secure’ system.
Professor Lê Khánh Bằng also emphasizes the importance of the skill
‘thinking by foreign language’. During practising, we shouldn't use
mother language so it can`t inhibit the FLC.

*)What do students say?
Professor Lê Khánh Bằng`s course has attracted many people. They
have different language levels. But when finishing the course, they are
just happy with the amazing results they`ve made.
One of my classmates, Ms.Lien said that she felt that she was not only
doing better at listening but she also talked more fluently. Some even
told me that they seemed to recall the vocabularies that they had
forgotten.
A relative of mine even told me that sometimes when she read a
paragraph that even had many new words, she used the meditation method
and she could understand the paragraph without having to struggle with
the dictionary at all(!).
Nông Thị Ngọc Bích, student from National Economics University:
“I`ve made lots of advance in English which used to be my
archenemy… I`ve never had a passion for it like I do now.”
Nguyễn Ngọc Phương Linh, Student from Medical University:
“After 2 classes, especially after learning by heart the text ‘Such
Is Life’, I see that my intonation is much better”. She also
reported that she`d made very much progress in speaking skill.
I myself took this course last summer. And several months later I took
a Chinese course and my teacher was just surprised by my fast progress.

I must say that this is really a useful method. It doesn`t only help
you master a language faster but also help you avoid forgetting it. You
can even apply this method to other subjects. Actually, some students
have done this and have reported initial success.
