Hi, all of a sudden my scan feature has stopped working. Printer works fine. When I try to scan - and have tried both from computer scan utility and directly from scanner - it starts working, makes a sound as if it's scanning - but then I get an onscreen error message on my computer that says it cannot communicate with the scanner, error code 2 157 50. Which makes no sense because my computer is clearly communicating with the scanner...(a) to print, (b) to start the scan, and (c) the scanner LED screen shows that wifi is on and has the correct name of my computer. So wifi is working, printing is working, but I can't get it to scan. And yes I have tried from IJscan gear. Help?? !!

Sometimes if the signal drops to the printer, it can interfere with scanning. Scanning requires more signal strength compared to printing so I recommend checking that first. Please click HERE for the steps to print the network settings of your TR4720. You will want to check row 3-2-1 and make sure it is as least 75% or higher.

If the signal strength is good, you can try removing/reinstalling the printer/scanner driver from the Canon website. If the error still appears, you can try moving all folders from the "C:\ Windows \ TWAIN_32" folder (leave "wiatwain.ds" in there), then trying to scan again.

Hi there,
I have a Canon MX472 and am running Windows 10. I set up my printer on WIFI and it's worked fine before, but now when I try and scan, it's saying "PC not Connected". But I can print from the computer just fine. Any help on getting this matter fixed would be greatly appriciated!

Hi Vox, I'm Chris and I have the canon pixma MX 472 exactly All in one plus fax. I've had it 3 or 4 years now, I was having trouble 4 days ago with the printer not being able to read my PC or network. It wouldn't work. Yesterday I was online, andwas trying to do the WPS wireless lan etc, and it was working on the computer, I was following a guy talking on a post about how to get printer and PC connected, but my printer isn't recognizing any printer icons on the computer in settings, one of the reason that is because I deleted this printer from Canon cause I thought that might help, andI was going to put i back on and the icon for the printer is gone completely. I don't know what to do, I'm an online student and have a paper that' is due tomorrow, but I'm doing it today. Can someone please call me [phone number removed per forum guidelines] or you can email, but I'd prefer you call if you can, I need help fast please, Thanks and God Bless You

My printer prints just fine. It will not scan for some reason now. I have Win10 if that makes any diff. I was able to scan from the program before but never from the printer itself. Now, can't do that either. It says printer may not be connected.

I can still print fine, but no longer scan. The scanner is not seen by my computer (I never saw it on the Devices and Printers but in the scanning software it was available, and it worked). Now all of a sudden, nothing I've tried, from uninstalling and reinstalling, reboot, etc has brought the scanning back. From the other computer it works fine.

Although the information in next link from Apple pertains to AirPrint compatible Printers / Scanners - the same type of Network Connection is required to the two devices to see and communicate with each other

Do try the demo version of VueScan . I used it on my very old Canon scanner with Ventura and earlier systems. I like it better than the apps that came with my scanners. You don't need to get the subscription version as the subscription only gets you compatibility with new scanners. Once you have it for your Canon you won't need the updates.

Thanks. I was on the phone to Canon for an hour or so earlier. They couldn't find any logical explanation and told me to contact Apple. I've tried two different Apple technicians and they couldn't help either. Told me to go back to Canon. So I'm basically going round in circles.

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I did resort to photographing, but I need the scanner to create handouts for my classes, and the quality of a photographed document isn't good enough. Also, the file size seems to be much much bigger than a classic scan.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm having the same issue so will save time going to Apple and Canon support. My workaround was scanning to card and then uploading that to my MacBook. A bit of a hassle but it worked. If you find out more, without buying new printer, please share! (I'm with you, that 2.4gHz band business is hurting my head. I just plug in!)

After updating to MacOS 14 Sonoma, my Canon PIXMA 8620 scanner no longer works if I select it from Printers and Scanners in System Preferences or in Print Center app. If I select Open Scanner, Image Capture opens and says no scanner selected. To scan, have to open a separate app, Canon IJ Scan Utility Lite. Printing still works as usual.

I tried your solution and found it worked although you have to click several times on the shared button then click on the printer but what a laborious way of scanning compared to the old way. Apple I think you have it wrong again this time!!!

Not sure if this'll help for your Canon, but when Image Capture opens for my Brother MFP, I see "No camera or scanner selected." and have to disclose the "Shared" section in the sidebar to see and select the Brother scanner.

Well I'll be darned! That's the answer. It works! Apple tricked me again. In the Image Capture window the Shared line was grayed out so I never bothered to select it, but it works anyway and I get the whole scanner window just like the old days, but in Image Capture. Well hidden.

"IJ Scan Utility Lite is the application software which enables you to scan photos and documents using AirPrint. You can easily scan such items simply by clicking the icon you want to choose in the main screen of IJ Scan Utility Lite."

Thanks Randall. So far, Canon just shows their new Canon IJ Scan Utility Lite as supporting Sonoma. Told me the disconnect between the scanner and System Preferences and Print Center was an Apple issue. At least I can scan with the Canon app. It's just extra work from what it was under MacOS 13.

Depends on the Canon Scanner. Canon is dropping support for some of their scanners from MacOS. On their website, MacOS V14 cannot be selected as the OS for downloading drivers/software. These scanners still work fine on Windows. I have two of the the LIDE220 scanners. Thought about buying the LIDE400 but still no MacOS V14 support even though this is the latest model LIDE scanner. Others are reporting similar problems scanning with their All-In-One Canon printers.

This was also true for my HP PageWide Pro MFP. Opening up the Shared heading under Devices in the Image Capture box when I clicked scanner in the printer dialog box did the trick for me. Thank you for that suggestion......I'd spent many hours trying to figure out the problem and this was THE ANSWER!!!

Things just got stranger. We have two LIDE 220 scanners, one connected to the last generation Intel iMac and the other to an early 2023 MacBook M2 Pro Max. Found new drivers for Sonoma, installed them on the iMac and the scanner works fine. Tried to download them to the MacBook and they won't download, tried several times including rebooting. So copied the drivers from the iMac to the MacBook, go thru the installation process and the software isn't installed. The install is successful according to the install process but the software isn't installed. Tried multiple times including rebooting to no effect. Went to the Canon Canadian support site and loaded the older 1.5 drivers (the only ones they have available) and they installed successfully, the scanner is working fine.

I discovered the issue after scanning a 20 page booklet - all went fine until I went to exit the multi-page IJScan Utility - it posted the error. Did a bit of research and found Canon don't support my Pixma under Sonoma and no software or driver is available. I'm not throwing out a several hundred pound printer, so will use my Windows machine for scanning!

After my Macbook laptop computer updated to operating system Monterey (12.5.1) I can print using my Canon MG5720 printer/scanner, but the scanner part does not work. The Canon IJ Scan Utility2 that I used to interface with the scanner no longer works (message is "The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer"). And, when I try to scan using the "scan" button on the printer itself (choose "scan", then press the green diamond button), I get the message "Set the PC to start scanning". How can I get the scanner to work again? Is there updated software?

Please click HERE to open the Canon support page for you printer. You will want to download/install the CUPS printer driver, ICA Scanner driver, and IJ Scan Utility again. Once that is done, go into printers and scanners and add the printer back on.

This worked for me, thank you! The one thing you didn't mention (but it was kind of obvious from your note) is that I had to remove the printer from my system, and then add it back. But, after I downloaded the three files and installed each of them, I went into system preferences and removed the printer, and then added it back. And now both the printer and the scanner work!

This is a me too to the original poster, except I can't print either. I have been able to do this even after the apparent conversion to Monterey Ver 12.5.1, but yesterday I had a paper jam. Had to pull it out from the back. Reinserted everything back in place, but now I get a printer error state "executed process is in a standby condition." I have gone to the utility page and deleted the page waiting to be printed. I've tried printing a test page, but then I get the same message and have to go back and delete that page from the queue. Do I try the same suggestion as above?
