Dear Hanyang,

I am going to put you in touch with Liang-Yi and Grace, the key contact people from the TWYCC (Taiwanese Youth Climate Coalition). I have worked with them on my arrangements for the Asian Youth Environmental Conference as I will be one of the youth speakers.

I am sure that Liang-Yi and Grace will be happy to answer your questions.

Kind regards,

Dear all:

Nice to hear that you get such great progress!

Kevin~ we have met in IYSECC and several meetings in Beijing....It gonna be great for hanyang and kevin together to present~

So sorry that i will not make in APNEC10, cuz i will fly to NY 10 Nov and come back 17 Nov then also have to go to Japan for a visit at the end of Nov. Kind of worried about my academic study now~ sigh~

  Best wishes to APNEC 10!

Dear Kevin and Hanyang,

Many thanks for your great participation.to APNEC10. Personally I think English is great to be our official language during the official session on 11/20 but we can use Chinese while youth session11/19. :) I just can't wait to talk with you asap.....jajajajajaja

There is another important issue I would like to raise and really need your participation as well.
We have another farewell cocktail party held by TWYCC at 11/21 night.
I think we can make it full with energy and youth power!!!!!!
TWYCC is planning to prepare a show at that time already.
Is it possible for you have around 10-20 minutes cultural showcase like us?
Just want to note that the show doesn't have to be dancing or singing a song,
it can be watching a fun video with energetic introduction?
We are open-minded, thus just bring your ideas to us! We can do it together anyway~

Here is the invitation letter~

-----
Dear distinguished APNEC10 Speakers,

Greetings.

First and foremost, we would like to express our gratitude in your participation and contribution to the 10th Asia Pacific NGOs Environmental Conference. In spirit of the event, we would like to further enhance everyone’s experience by including a night of cultural exchange, which is why we are approaching you.

Prior to arriving Taiwan, we are asking you to prepare a short non-formal presentation showcasing the culture in your country. This can range from (preferably) wearing traditional clothes, playing music that defines your country or bringing a certain artifact that reflects your country’s history or anything interesting you wish to share.

If you would like to share the joy of your culture at this gala event, please fill out the form below and send it back to us by Nov. 1st., 2011. We look forward to your  participation and thank you in advance.

Sincere regards,

Cocktail Party Event Organiser

Dear Grace and Hanyang,

I think it is wonderful that Hanyang and I can present together from the perspective of CYCAN and YEPYEP. I think this will really create an exciting and inspiring seminar for our audience members. So I am more than happy to share the session!

As for where the presentation should be in Chinese or English, I am actually ok with doing both. Grace what do you think will be best? FYI, I have studied Chinese for a couple of years and am currently enrolled at Shanghai Jiaotong University for Mandarin Language studying in high intermediate courses

Kind regards,

@Dear Grace,
Thank you so much for your kind reply. I would be very glad to have a joint session with Kevin so that we can present together. Our topics can be mutually cooperative. I think Kevin will focus on the Sino-US relationship when addressing climate change issues, while I will mainly focus on how China and its youth take the role in sustainability, and also tell the audiences about the serious problems in China's environment as well as its positive perspective.
Do you mean that I can make use of the full 20 minutes that you allocate to CYCAN?
I do agree that the Q&A session will be very important and very interesting. I do look forward to answering questions from Taiwanese youth as well as other participants.
Just one brief question: do you think the presentation should be in Chinese or English? For me, both are very ok, even some others.
I will send you a brief introduction of CYCAN, when I confirm with my other colleagues about who is going to be the main speaker. Thank you very much.

@ Dear Kevin,
Kevin, thank you very much. I am glad to be possibly having the opportunity to meet you in Taipei. I am sorry if my participation gives you some inconvenience. Please feel free to tell me if you find there is any potential time conflict or session problem on the presentation day.

Best regards,
Hanyang

Hi Hanyang,

Sorry for getting back so late. We had an issue with one of our speaker's visa. Since it seems likely that that speaker won't be able to join us due to visa issues, I was able to move the schedule around more! I'd like to put you in a joint session with Kevin Osborne on his experience with working with you guys. Below is a summary of his workshop.

China-US Climate Youth Session on Shared Future (Workshop)
Speaker: Kevin Osborne
We all know that the People's Republic of China and the United States are both critical players in the international efforts to address global climate change. We also recognize that the Sino-American relationship is complex, multi-faceted, and difficult, so how do youth play a role in the solution? Come and join Kevin Osborne in this interactive workshop on the evolution, complexities, and future developments of Sino-American youth climate collaboration with an activity that will change they way you see reality. In the end, participants will learn the basic tools of how to engage in creating a shared future.

The plan is to allow 20 min for Kevin to present, 20 min for CYCAN to present, and a 15 min interaction/panel or Q&A session. If CYCAN and Kevin would like to direct the 15 min interaction more, feel free to contact each other to coordinate something more fruitful! This session is scheduled for 11/20 Sunday 15:30~16:30.

Please do write a brief summary of CYCAN's presentation, with a brief intro of CYCAN (or of the principle speakers from CYCAN) and I will incorporate it into the program. If possible it'd also be nice to have a picture of the main speaker (or speakers) for CYCAN. It would be alright if it is in Chinese as I can translate it into English much easier.

Kevin, I hope this doesn't inconvenience you too much! Feel free to let me know if this can be problematic! We do have somewhat of a tight schedule though as we're trying to hold most of the youth forum on the weekend (11/19 Sat + 11/20 Sun Afternoon) so more youth can attend!

Thank you HanYang and WenJie for your patience! Very much looking forward to interacting with you!

Yours,

Grace.

Dear Liang Yi and Grace,
Hello. Thank you for reading this email.
This is Hanyang from the China Youth Climate Action Network (CYCAN). I am glad and grateful that you have forwarded much of APNEC information to us and we are finalizing the list of our participants to go to your conference.
While another colleague of CYCAN is responsible for finalizing the list, I am writing to ask whether it is possible for you, according to one of your suggestions last time, to schedule a time slot for CYCAN or China youth to do a presentation about what we are doing on the issues of climate change and sustainability. We would be very glad to make use of these around 20 minutes (that depends on your convenience) to tell what we are trying to mobilize within China and listen to different opinions from Taiwan and from other international participants.
How would you consider the availability of schedule during APNEC 10?
I myself will be going there and I will get myself ready for the presentation, once you could confirm the time vacancy.
At the moment of waiting for your kind reply, I am sincerely sending you the best wishes for the 100th anniversary of Republic of China and I can imagine how happy Taiwanese people are today on celebrating this important historical day.

Best regards,
Hanyang
International Coordinator of CYCAN

Dear hanyang,

Thank you for your emails!!!!
We are getting excited about the coming event, too.

At this time I hope you can read more information on the official webpage here
Also to have information about the youth forum,
Feel free to spread out the information.

Since the schedule is quite full at this moment, but you can still tell me about what you would like to share during the conference. Grace and I will do our best to fit in the tentative schedule. We will publish the official schedule sooner or later, so keep continuing discussions.

About the sponsorship for international youths coming forward, I apologize that we don't have enough budget right now for the whole covering expense. However, for all international youths participation, we can help you to have FREE registration entrance for the APNEC10 conference (usually 100 USD for participants, including lunch, dinner, banquet among three days conference) However, the travel expense and accommodation cost in Taipei are NOT included, which I hope you understand. Still, if we have further sponsors in the nearly future, we will let you know as soon as possible.

About the accommodation, I had a friend who is holding a hostel in Taipei city center, called Across The Ocean. They can offer dorm room bed for 500NTD per night per person. (breakfast included) If you would like me to help you guys to book the hostel, just let me know.

Again, feel free to ask me about anything related to APNEC10.

We are willing to help out.

:P

Hi Hangyang,

I'm really sorry to tell you that there are no more funds available for additional transport. Even though I know the fee is low, our current assured budget is so low that we have to scramble to get more than double that for the fees we've already promised our other speakers. If it were not for this I would definitely look for budgets for you!

We can, however, find a couchsurfing host for you! Just let us know your dates of arrival/departure. And please send over a pic with brief intro of yourself so we can inform the host who he/she their guest is.

Btw, could you let me know who the main coordinator of the CYCAN team is? And how many people would be planning to attend? We need everyone to be registered so they can get their entrance fee waived. Attached is a registration form. Please have all attendees send one back to me so I can forward it to the Society of Awareness, who is in charge of overall APNEC10 registration.

Thank you for the kind words about my name.

yours,
Grace.

Dear En-Tien,
I am surprised about your Chinese name, which sounds and means so good!
To update you, I have started the visa application for Taiwan and it should be very easy and very quick for me. If possible, would you please help me find whether there is host family or couchsurfing among your friends in Taipei?
I am writing to ask: as one of the speakers (representing CYCAN, potentially also representing the new project that we set up under collaboration with Global Sustainability Leadership Forum, GSLF), would it be possible or ever convenient for you to support my travel air-ticket fares? I am going to fly from Hong Kong to Taipei, return, which is not very far.
I would be glad if you could circulate this information with me, and I would fully respect your decision.
Thank you very much. Will be glad to reply you more!

cc to Liang Yi, please
Best regards,
Hanyang

To supplement:

@ Hanyang,
There is a full 20 min devoted to CYCAN's presentation. It's within CYCAN's discretion on who should present. A few tips I found on presenting which I thought are really cool from TED:
http://www.slideshare.net/mrcoryjim/tedx-presentation-design-tips-ep

@Kevin,
Please do use the language you feel you can express the most of your content with. I've heard you use Chinese and it's quite good!

However, we may not have funds for translators on site, and considering that we will have some foreign attendees present it may be a good idea to use English, or at least have your ppts in English. The ambitious goal the main coordinator has is to translate the ppts in both English and Chinese. So we may need copies of your presentation ppts in advance.

Grace.

Hi Hanyang,

Love your ppt! Though there are 42 pages and you guys only have 20 minutes, and I saw a lot of the good stuff (in depth) in more in the back of the ppt. It would really be a pity if you don't have enough time to get to that part! Consider shortening or rehearsal to speed up the beginning portions?

btw, I found this:
    • Collective Submission of Chinese CSOs on Rio+20 Zero Draft

Quite interesting, do you have a document of this that you can share with TWYCC?

Grace.
