Appreciate if you can guide me to block facebook-apps and facebook-chat in Palo Alto but allow other facebook features. I already implemented it in Application layer but failed, is there something i am missed? I am using PA-3020 and 7.0.3 version.

You have to set up the plugin using the setup tool or whitelist your domain on facebook.com (i.e. you have to tell Facebook that the domain you are trying to run messenger on is allowed to run messenger). The setup tool asks for the domains or you can simply whitelist the domains from the facebook page settings.

Thank you @palombokevin! This worked for me on desktop. However, it does not show up when i am on ipad or on iPhone. But I see that it is showing up on your site. What did you do for it to work on iPad & iPhone? (i copied your example exactly)

Seems to be like they had some issues like everyone does and since Facebook has a ton on C++ devs they just decided to rewrite it in a language they know really well and is popular in their organization.

Interesting as they then went and bought WhatsApp that was serving millions of chat connections on a single server using Erlang. I wonder if they are (or have) phased Erlang out of that product as well.

I think the take-away from all this is that yes, if you throw enough $$$, programmers and time, you can rewrite anything in the platform that works for your company. Having a unified platform at a large company is FAR more important than the efficiency of a single application within the company.

The industry also has a history of shooting itself in the foot - while it can be tricky to create an application that manages a complex domain it typically it is even more difficult to keep its functionality current in the face of a continually and rapidly evolving business requirements.

I laid some of the skepticism to rest once I was able to explain that Clojure was a JVM-hosted language, which meant that much of the Java ecosystem could be leveraged, including debugging tools, profiling, etc. Although no one said so aloud, I think that they took this to mean that if the acquisition was completed, the system could be migrated to Java. Heh heh.

I've been having problems on one of my laptops running Ubuntu Mate while viewing Facebook Marketplace using the Brave browser . A chat window covers up 1/2 of the screen so I can't view anything in Marketplace. It doesn't do it when using the Chromium browser. Any suggestions?

To try to help you, I've just installed the "Brave" web browser in my laptop computer that is running Ubuntu MATE 22.04.3 LTS ("Jammy Jellyfish") by following the instructions available at the "Installing Brave on Linux Brave" web page - - specifically by executing the following commands in a Terminal window:

I've then opened the Brave web browser, browsed to the "Facebook Marketplace" web page - - and logged in with my "Facebook" user credentials. Everything looks normal and there's no Facebook Messenger chat window opened. Even if I click the round chat icon in the lower right corner of the screen, I then get a relatively small chat window (certainly not one that covers up half of the screen as it's happening to you).

Could it be some issue related to the screen resolution in your computer? I'm using a screen resolution of 1440 x 810 (as seen in the "Displays" / "Monitor Preferences" program of Ubuntu MATE). What version of Ubuntu MATE and what screen resolution are you using? And what version of the Brave web browser are you running?

Thank you, ricmarques, for taking time to address my issue. It only happens on one laptop that is running Ubuntu, not on my other Ubuntu laptops. When I use that laptop again I'll see what version of Brave it's running. The size of the chat window is an issue but not being able to minimuze it or shut it off is what really annoys me.

I discovered the problem is due to not being able to update the Brave browser to its latest version. When using the Chromium browser it doesn't happen. When trying to update Brave I receive an error message:

"(...) When trying to update Brave I receive an error message:
N: Ignoring file 'brave-browser-release.lis' in directory '/etc/apt/sources.list.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
E: Unable to locate package brave

So, I believe that, if you rename that file from brave-browser-release.lis to brave-browser-release.list and then try again, then it should work. Please, try that and report back afterwards, in this discussion topic, to tell us if that solved your problem

I have no idea where to find the incorrect file in order to rename it. I looked in the Synaptic Package Manager and it has Brave flagged with an asterisk at the beginning of it. There were no files listed under the Repository tab in Synaptics so that was a deadend. Caja didn't list any file with that name. Thank you for trying to help.

I reinstalled Brave, restarted my computer and experienced the same Messenger chat window that can't be closed in Facebook Marketplace. There's no problem when using the Chromium browser so I guess I'll just have to use Chromium when browsing Marketplace.

I was checking on my internal systems and I was able to see your Facebook page with name Sparkl is connected to another portal with HubID: 5768107. It would be necessary to delete the Facebook page from that portal and then connected to the portal you want to connect to.

it seems that you work for Hubspot. I have been facing an issue with FB messenger for a couple of months. Unfortunately, nobody from Hubspot can't help. My Hubspot bot always stops in the middle of a chatflow. It just does not work with Hubspot. 99% other bot tools like Freshchat, Manychat and others simply work. It seems nobody has paid any attention to this trouble because this support ticket in Hubspot community has been there since 2019. You can try to message on FB (guru muscle) or even visit www.gurumuscle.com. FB messenger simply does not work with Hubspot.

after a couple of months, I tried again to reconnect my FB messenger and it did not work either. Asking for help on FB chat does not help at all because I'm on the FREE plan. Hubspot Support is really bad until we pay your expensive monthly cost. It's been said across the community on the Internet. Anyway. My Hub ID is 6937773 and I've created a chatflow. It has never run until the end of the chatflow where I'm asking for personal details such as email and phone. It's been set up but never worked. Also, GDPR consent is set up as well and Hubspot FB Messenger never asked if the user agrees with that. If we don't get help because of the FREE plan you will never turn us as payable customers. This is what you should think about. Give us help, make Hubspot works and then we can turn out for monthly payments.

I'm sorry you are feeling in this way, could you please provide a screenshot with the error message? Could you please provide your HubID and the name of your Facebook page you are trying to connect to?

I tried blocking it by application filter and then enabled Scan HTTPS, but still it cannot be blocked.

Note: Messenger can be blocked and also "unable to connect to chat" but I'm still able to chat by opening the inbox.

Am I missing something?

Im trying to block messenger.com too, it doesnt work only with the options for facebook, and it looks like there is no option to block an https site, or at least i didnt find it yet, thanks for all the help.

If you look for "facebook", that collection encapsulates facebook-chat. So if you have a rule that allows "facebook", you will allow chat, and if you want to block it, the deny rule needs to be a higher order rule above that. If you allow "facebook-base", then you can deny facebook-chat in a rule below it. By default, interzone traffic will be denied unless you have an implicit-allow rule in your policy.

I have a solution that worked for me.update messenger to latest version if it's not already.uninstall it. Download messenger version 240.0.0.12.120 from APKmirror. Install that version, login in your account, enable chat heads in the app, then go update the app from play store. Hope it helps.

We've updated the App, iOS is 15.4 (updated in case) we've reset the network settings, logged out of Facebook Messenger and back in, checked there's enough space on the phone (23.1gb) obviously rebooted (update did that) and reset the network settings AFTER the update.

I know 2 persons with exactly the same problem- everything okay on computer but on phone even clickng (or longclicking) on user crashes the app. Reinstall does not fix it. After clearing the problematic chat, exactly one message can be sent and then it crashes again.
