Dear Kadikit,
Just an update of what's going on at the National Board of Canvassers.
Today, the Comelec proclaimed 39 party-list groups and alloted 53 seats to them (out of 58). This is inclusive of the 14 earlier proclaimed.
APL is in 41st spot with 236,633 votes garnered so far. Ahead of us is AGBIAG with 240,633 votes. Below us are ALI with 218,696 votes & ATING GURO with 213,723 votes.
Based on our conservative estimate & computation, whatever happens re the pending disqualification cases of some PL groups (oral arguments before the SC is on June 3), APL is assured of the 58th seat at the very least (proclamation per Chairman Brillantes "in a few days").
However, some alarming reports received around 9pm today prompted the issuance of this special advisory for your guidance & request for prayers.
To my mind, when the Comelec proclaimed the first 14 PLs, it was okay. But when they proclaimed the next 25 this morning, I thought it was done in such indiscriminate haste.
From the evening of May 27 to around 2am of May 28, Comelec canvassed around 186,126 votes with only a few souls keeping watch. Our own Legal Officer, Atty. Gladys Bautista, was among the few brave souls present.
Tomorrow, May 29, it will canvass around 120,000 votes, with special elections being held at the same in some areas in Lanao del Norte & Calbayog City.
The 120,000 votes is of such great number enough to alter the ranking of PLs. Why the haste?
Commissioner Yusoph is from Lanao del Norte. ALI is a Muslim-dominated PL group. Tomorrow's special polls in that area may hold some bearing in our ranking.
While we do not want to speculate, may I earnestly request all of us to become Prayer Warriors until APL's proclamation is official and certain.
Albert
