Reviewer: Brian R. MacPherson, PhD (University of Kentucky College of Medicine)
Description: This book covers the human body system by system. The website allows users to search the complete contents of the book as well as view completed coloring pages done by others for reference. The enhanced ebook allows users to access all of the text and figures on a variety of devices. This is the third edition, after the second debuted in 2019.
Purpose: The book's purpose is to reinforce users' knowledge of structures, pathways, and relationships through an active and engaging review tool. Color is a known beneficial learning tool, and coloring books are popular with many students from undergraduates through those in allied health graduate programs. In this regard, the book is needed. The online aspects allow access on numerous devices and offer pre-colored pictures to assist with any clarity issues users might have.
Audience: The book is directed toward those taking anatomy courses or who are just curious about how the body works. The left page of each two-page spread contains textual information clearly written and summarized in tabular form, which can be added through color to the accompanying diagram on the right page. I have seen students at all levels using these coloring books. This book meets the needs of the intended audience and, being a third edition, clearly attests to its demand. The author is a well-known clinical anatomist who has created and edited numerous textbooks from the Netter compendium.
Features: The best feature of this book is the accompanying written material on the left page that is diagrammatically shown on the right page. The author uses summaries, tables, and clinical scenarios to reinforce the anatomical relationships/structures being colored. This reinforces high-yield information with structural/relational knowledge. After all, that is what anatomy is and why this book is so well liked by students. Users are not simply coloring for stress release, but are learning factual information as they add color to differentiate structures, pathways, etc.
Assessment: This coloring book offers students the ability to learn anatomy while adding color to diagrams to differentiate structures. This is what anatomy is all about relationships of one structure to another. There are other anatomy coloring books, but none that utilize the diagrams and clinical inter-relationships that the Netter team of artists develop at Elsevier. The author has made optimal use of this relationship.
Reinforce your knowledge of structures, pathways, and relationships with this active and engaging review tool Netter's Anatomy Coloring Book, 3rd Edition is cross-referenced to the bestselling Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy, 8th Edition, so you know you're benefiting from reliable, up-to-date anatomical information. This comprehensive book is a fun and easy way to trace arteries, veins, and nerves through their courses and bifurcations, reinforce your understanding of muscle origins and insertions, and develop a better understanding of the integration of individual organs in the workings of each body system throughout the human form. Whether you are taking an anatomy course or just curious about how the body works, you'll learn and master anatomy with ease.
Like more and more people, I spent the winter coloring. According to recent research, coloring helps relieve stress by replacing negative images with positive ones, which sounds like the yoga concept of pratipaksha bhavana (cultivating the opposite). Coloring has been likened to meditation in that it brings you to the present moment.
For medical students or those studying for an anatomy test, the flash cards seem fantastic. On the front is a picture of the muscle, and the back of the card includes the muscle name, origin, insertion and function.
The bones and articulations are covered in the same chapter and offer a similar depth to the muscular chapter. The entire book is filled with tables of information that cover both anatomy and movement.
Hey everyone, I will be attending a PA program this summer and I figured I'd touch upon some anatomy prior to the start of the program. Any recommendations on anatomy coloring books that I can order online? Thank you in advance!

For the radiographer, a thorough knowledge of anatomy is essential to producing images that fully address the clinical question. This course provides a complete review of anatomy and physiological systems, including the skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, reproductive, and endocrine systems. Written in a simple, easy to understand format, this course will provide the radiographer with the all-too important knowledge of what is where and how it works. There is the option to color in specific bones, organs, and physiologic systems; instructions for doing so are found in the preface of the book. While not required for the completion of continuing education, the radiographer is encouraged to color along with the book to enhance his or her understanding of the location and characteristics of bones, organs, and systems.
I realized that the netter's anatomy flashcards deck on here by u/Reddit4Anki was of an older edition of the netter's anatomy flashcards book/pdf. So I made a new deck using the same format/card template, based on the 5th Edition of Netter's Anatomy Flash Cards.
Simply put, anatomy coloring books consist of pages of black and white anatomical structures ready to be coloured in. But these are not like your standard coloring book. Rather than being randomly arranged, the content within is organised very precisely and logically so as to gradually build your knowledge and understanding.
It basically anchors two features, providing a common point for both. Not to mention that coloring is easy and fun! Anatomy learning can quickly become dull and boring when you confine yourself to one method of learning and repetition. Coloring partially eliminates the mind numbing text, essays and explanations required to describe and understand anatomical structures.
