Is there a way to do something based on a time before sunset? Like a half hour before sunset I want certain lights to come on, or whatever. I'd be willing to accept a solution that triggered, say, 23.5 hours after sunset, (since sunset time doesn't usually change much from one day to the next). But I'm stumped on how to do even that.

Hi,
you can't do the trick with the +23.5 hours after sunset because the possible delay in Apilio is limited to 60 minutes.
But I just found a clever workaround - described here in this applet: https://ifttt.com/applets/451484p-if-1-hour-before-sunset-in-london-turn-on-all-lights

Cheers

If i understand correctly that updates the location if the wu service which means that all otger services referencing wu will also start referencing this new tz?
So can't have recipes run on actual tz and an offset to the tz at the same time?

Interesting idea. I didn't have the weather underground app on my phone, so I'm guessing it defaulted to my phone gps location or something. I'll install the app and set it to a city in another time zone and see what happens.

I don‘t think that the IFTTT Wheater Underground service has any connection to the app.
You have to specify your location manually in the service configuration.

Hmm. When I set up the ifttt service trigger, I never saw any place to configure that in the service. I must've overlooked something ...

You can do that in the Weather Underground service settings: https://ifttt.com/services/weather/settings

My previous question remains: would that change in connection result in all other rules referencing WU service to also change to that new timezone?

Yes, I think so.

I also experienced this issue and made a web application for it. It works on a selected location and you can trigger a webhook before/after sunrise/sunset.

It is free to use: https://presunset.rinusj.tk
