API Versioning with API Gateway

Hi All, 

Based on my experience so far with API Gateway, we can not update open API spec without creating a new API config and API gateway. As a result, even for a minor version upgrade of the API, we have to create a new API config and API gateway. Creating a new API gateway means we get a new API Gateway URL. 

If this understanding is correct, the API gateway URL has to be changed even for an upgrade of the minor version of the API.  If this is the case, I would like to know whether there is a workaround to keep the same API gateway URL for the upgraded API versions?

It would be great if you can point me to any document explaining API versioning with API Gateway?

You can update an API Gateway, so that it serves a new API config. See the documentation at https://cloud.google.com/api-gateway/docs/deploying-api#updating_a_gateway.
