Yesterday Hans from http://giftflow.org have pointed me you your original article on Shareable. Hard to believe but I've worked on similar topic in parallel not knowing about your effort! Lately I've started this Community Group on new W3C platform with similar aim: http://www.w3.org/community/community-io/
Myself I live strictly moneyless for almost 3 years now and even longer focusing on how we can apply our recent communication/information technologies to develop strong sharing culture. I started this site while ago: http://moneyless.info
On a pragmatic site lately I start putting more emphasis on topic I refer to as 'polyeconomy', first of my sketches on it you can find here: http://polyeconomy.hackers4peace.net/
When it comes to distributed networking for over a year I participate in W3C Federated Social Web group. Not so much active but we have had a summit last summer in Berlin, you can find videos from it at: http://d-cent.org/fsw2011/videos/ (it doesn't have link to 2nd workshop but i've asked people maintaining it to update the site). You may also like to check first few minutes of my presentation on this topic from last drupal camp in Berlin: https://vimeo.com/32306203
Myself I've worked mostly with Ruby on Rails, which I started using back in 2008, and now start finding much appreciation to node.js (using coffeescript) and want to experiment more with couchapps and similar 'new ways'.
Now, on topic of 'technological sharing ecosystem': I would like to take some inspiration from this project: http://unhosted.org and let us all have sort of 'Personal Data Stores', some inspiring projects:
http://projectdanube.org/
http://lockerproject.org/
http://myprofile-project.org/
Than have also nodes acting as 'hubs', and we can *syndicate* each particular wish/offer (or bundles) to any number of those hubs. We could have:
* very generic hubs like: http://giftflow.org http://bewelcome.org etc.
* local hubs like current http://freecycle.org groups or http://communityforge.net sites etc.
* topic hubs - for example 'hackers rideshare', 'hitchhikers share pool' or 'paragliders hospitality club', both local/global types
Besides that I would see place for search engines (plural!), if we take advantage of lined data they could work in rather powerful way. An example engine whose developers I try to contact now (and hopefully invite here): http://www.ecofreek.com also generic but open source and distributed: http://yacy.net
On top of that I look forward to have microblogging like (status.net/identi.ca or twitter) interactions. So we can follow peoples wishes/offers streams, 'retweet' them, share with friends or group of friends etc. Here http://ostatus.net (implemented by http://identi.ca http://rstat.us and more) could come useful. For linked data I have contact with people who have developed https://code.google.com/p/smob/
I would like to leverage BDD and start with writing 'use/interaction stories'. Similar to OStatus 'SWAT' tests: http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/SWAT0
To start brainstorming ridesharing with Personal Data Stores and Market Hubs I dumped some thoughts on this wiki page: http://www.w3.org/community/community-io/wiki/Ride_Sharing
Once more, myself I want to live and give my main support to culture of free sharing <3, but I also like trust/reputation systems (social karma) and see place for alternative monetary currencies available for those who want to use them. I want to have 'accounting systems' agnostic design where people can mark their wishes/offers with multiple 'services', again as I illustrate on: http://polyeconomy.hackers4peace.net/
What I haven't got into here yet, but I also want to take into account - (deep) dependencies between wishes/offers ex we offer bikes for local community, but only if we have our wishes of bike parts and workshop met etc... I hope linked data will come useful for that (and overcoming spoken languages barriers ;)
Okie dokie, enough for now =)
My email works as webfinger and jabber(xmpp), you use it to connect with me on Diaspora* and soon I hope to enable my personal BuddyCloud (xmpp) chanel for it...
Warm hugs from waking up to spring European Continent <3
