A true understanding of history is demonstrated by your ability to
connect events across time and to recognize significant themes.

are below). Read the article thoroughly. Post a 2-paragraph
response, using the guidelines below. BE SURE TO POST A LINK TO YOUR

Remember that to truly understand the article, you may need to do some
side research!
• Who is the article about? Who are the major players in this
issue?
• What event/issue is this article about? Explain the facts/
opinions of your article.
• When did the story take place? Does it have anything to do with
past events or issues?
• Where is this event or issue occurring?
• Why is this event happening? Is it interconnected with anything
else that is going on or has gone on in the past? What are the events
that have preceded and influenced this?
• How is this story significant? How does this article fit in
with a study of government?

In Paragraph 2, respond to the article using one or more of the

learn from the article?
• What are the implications of your article for you? Your

the author?
• Predict what you think may happen as this article develops.

This article is about how RBS wants to scale back
government funding. RBS is the Royal Bank of Scotland. RBS
wanted to cut down the assets in the program by £45 billion.
Under this plan the government can put billions of taxpayer's
money to the bank so that money can go towars this program.
The bank has helped to give risky loans to help improve the economy.
Secondly, this article does relates to our study of the
government.
For example, we are studying all types of governments and what they
do over time. One thing that i found interesting about this article
was that
a bank can put limits on the government. I found that interesting
because
i never though that a bank can have that power over the government.
One
thing that i learned from this article was that the bank has some
power
over the bank.

Barack Obama and House and Congress members are very happy with the
new Health care legislation. Many members believe that finally a
Health care legislation will finally pass after many failed attempts
by previous presidents. Members of the House and Senate have given a
vote of confidence. Barack Obama has been very public about his
support of the Health Care Legislation.
I found out that this Health care debate has been going on for a
while Presidents in the past has tried to let this Legislation pass. I
believe that it being a Democratic White House and a Democratic
Congress allowed the Government to finally pass Health Care
legislation. Barack Obama will surely pass this Legislation after he
has publically supported and wanted this to be passed.

This artivle is about First Lady Michelle Obama and what her choices
have been so far and what is expected of her. So far Lady Obama has
chosen what things to stand on very cautiously. However, there more
things expected of her as an African-American woman. She is currently
taking her time on things.

I believe that this article shows the responsibilities of a First Lady
and how important it is to our First Lady. The role of a First Lady
can impact the role of the President. Now Lady Obama has choices to
make that will either make or break her current streak.

Afghan election commission declares Karzai winner
http://www.boston.com/news/world/asia/articles/2009/11/02/un_secretary_general_arrives_in_afghanistan/

This article is about the winner of the election in
Afghan,Afghanistan's election commission proclaimed President Hamid
Karzai the victor of the war-ravaged nation's tumultuous ballot on
Monday, canceling a planned runoff two and a half months after a fraud-
marred first round. The challenger Abdullah Abdulla, dropped out of the
race on Sunday because he said the vote would not be free or fair.
Independent Election Commision chairman Azizullah Lodin announced
Karzai victor during a news confrence in Kabul. U.N. Secretary-General
Ban Ki-moon arrived in Kabul on a surprise visit, as international
pressure mounted for a quick resolution to the country's electoral
turmoil.

What I found interesting about this article is how influential Karzai
is to win the election by fraud he has to be a rich and powerful
individual and I think that he used his money to bribe individuals in
the election commission to win the election. I think that later on
there would be a solution tho this dilema the cancellation of the
weekend vote will be a huge relief to organizers, who were scrambling
to hold the election before the onset of Afghanistan's harsh winter,
which was likely to close roads in the north and prevent voters from
casting ballots. A bigger fear was security: A Taliban spokesman had
threatened violence against anyone who took part. It would be
intersting to see if the cancellation of the weekend vote would help
at all.

I agree with catherine that Michelle Obama is taking her
time on things. I agree with her becuase i havent heard of
anything so far that she has done. I also agree with catherine
becuase i do believe that our first lady is very important now.
Michell Obama does influence her husband becuase they make
choices together and they help each other out. There are also
very important decisions that people make that can break or make
their new reputation.

Congress urged to pass greenhouse gas limits

The Obama administration is aware and concerned on how they are
slipping behind on clean energy development. Energy secretary Steven
Chu said the only way to get better in clean energy is congress must
pass complete energy legislation. So that it can put the first ever
limits on gases that are believed to cause global warming. There are
weeks remaining before 192 nations to discuss climate change. In the
year 2020 the bill calls for green houses to be cut by 20 percent. An
environmental protection agency analysis said the average house hold
would have to pay an extra 80 to 111 to get electricity in there homes
and have gas. If the bill becomes a law we will be making a huge
process.
I think this is a good idea because now-a-days we don’t seem too
concern about global warming and how the climate in some places are
changing. We need to shine the light in that area because it affects
us hugely. I also think it should be a bill because more work it’s
going to be done. I don’t fully agree with paying more for the
electricity. I think if you can’t pay it, you shouldn’t be pressured
to do so and if you can afford it, you’re obligated to do so. In the
end were only helping our selves and our environment.

Hello my fellow classmates,

Man it seems that everything involves money lately. RBS (royal bank of scotland) wants to cut government funding. They want to cut it down by 45 billion in an program. If it was up to the government they can make all the tax payers dough go towrds to the program(RBS) so they wont have to cut of any of the funding at all. So they are pretty much chosing between the two choices.  Also the bank is knwon to have risky loans so that does not help anything at all.
