Contracting organizations hire Quantity Surveying professionals as Commercial Managers of their teams for managing commercial operation of projects including monitoring, reporting and decision making on maintaining or improving profits. It is important to understand the systematic way of recording costs, reporting costs and ways of improving the cash flows and profits by improving the efficiency of execution, agreeing with better contractual terms, facing temporary cash flow challenges etc. Quantity Surveyors should have this overall knowledge and understanding to perform successfully in their roles in contracting organizations.
