Hey RAC,
Alexey and I thought it would be great to organize another meeting time in Oslo, where all interested DCs can meet people from their discipline – another great way to connect disciplines better, and get to know people. I send in a request for a room for Wednesday the 9th of June now between 4-6pm. This was the only time I could make out as being an option form the tight Oslo schedule.
I want to ask you DCs now who of you might also be interested to join the call for participation for your discipline.
So far we have: Alexey and Loic – Marine Sciences, Kim – Terrestrial Sciences
Anybody of you is encouraged to join! This might also be a good opportunity to look for future DCs if you recognize you have to cut down on your APECS involvement.
Also all former DCs are encouraged to join :)
Looking forward to get some feedback from you.
Regards,
-Kim
Hi again, Kim,
I have just seen that (a) I didn’t reply to all your questions in your previous email, and (b) that the conference organisers have moved our SSAG plenary to 10 June.
So, I assume that I will be free on 11 June to participate in the RAC meeting. J Sorry for the confusion.
I am also happy to participate in a discipline-focused meeting on 9 June. I would be able to represent the (Antarctic) social sciences ... although I would not go as a DC (this would be Rosa’s job).
Finally, I forgot to say that it might be good to have a RAC call in May, although I am overcommitted as it stands and am not sure whether I could make a call in May.
It would depend on when it is ... my calendar is pretty full at the moment.
Cheers,
Daniela

I should have probably done that already in the first email:
Please let us know your availability in the doodle poll for Mai, and we will then decide if and when to have a call :)

Hi Kim,
Sorry to bother you again, but are the times in the RAC doodle poll in GMT?
Did you know that you can use a setting, which allows every user to see the times in the time zone they are in?
Hey,
yes all in GMT.
I know the settings to get local times exist, but personally find them confusing (in case someone doesn’t recognize it), and rather stick to GMT.
Sorry, I keep forgetting to include the GMT notice all the time…
Hi Ivan and all,
Our idea was to give people from different research fields also the possibility to meet in a group, but rather the general APECS meetings, where they might meet a few people form their discipline. Suc a meeting might open up the possibility to ask what people would be most interested in within a research field and the APECS structure for example. In policy maybe get feedback to the already existing email listserver, or get people motivated to help with a few projects of APECS, whatever you think might be mist important for your research field.
Research fields should rather be broad, not too narrowed down I think, for these purposes.
I hope we can get a room for Wednesday, I did not hear back yet from Asgeir. If not does anyone know of a good meeting point around the venue? As we will split up in groups anyways, we do not necessarily need a room I think.
Just thoughts so far, any ideas and input welcome!
I hope that explains our originating thoughts a little better?
Best greetings,
-Kim

Hi all, as probably most of you expected unfortunately I won’t be joining the Oslo meeting as my baby is breastfeeding and thus complicated to leave him. I'm very keen though to be able to follow up on what comes out of it and notably for the social sciences. If you Daniela could do a meeting for the social sciences in general (not only Antarctic) and try to recruit some active people it would be fab. Also if there are people willing to get involved there is plenty to do within the SS. maybe we could meet on Skype sometime before the meeting to discuss some ideas.
Hope you have a great meeting in Oslo
Cheers Rosa
