Hi APECS RAC and EOC,

I am hoping that all of you just received this email about our first mailing list - Polar Policy.

This was an idea from two members, neither of which is on the council or RAC or EOC (so great that we have lots of folks willing to take on initiatives).

I hope that some of you will be interested in doing the same on whatever topics you feel would generate interest and would benefit from sharing information with each other.

All I need to get a list set up for you is:
- Name of Group/List
- 1 paragraph description of what will be discussed on the list etc.
- Names and email addresses of 2 people who will be in charge of moderating it and making sure there is discussion every once and a while.
- suggested email address for the list, ie. pol...@apecs.is

Let me know if this is of interest for you,
jenny

Dear APECS Community,

One of the great opportunities that APECS presents for young researchers is its ability to connect students of the same, or similar disciplines, as well as motivate students who might have an interest in broadening their academic spectrum into new fields of research.

We are happy to introduce our first mailing list dedicated to a specific topic -

the Polar Policy Listserve,  where young researchers and mentors in political science, governance, law, and international relations and all fields in-between are invited to join our online network. As a starting point, the group will exchange and discuss current and pressing issues related to polar policy, including legal, political, anthropological or other related fields relevant to the polar regions. Issues related to climate change governance, sovereignty and security, international cooperation, indigenous peoples rights or environmental policies are encouraged to be discussed here.

As always, people from all disciplines are encouraged to join and you don't have to be an APECS member. Discussion on what exactly policy is, what it means and how it is formed can help young scientists realize that all forms of research have policy implications. Sharing ideas about how to frame and communicate science with policy in mind are important points of discussion for the group.

If you are interested in participating in these discussions, please contact pol...@apecs.is in order to be added to the list.

If you are interested in helping to create other topic specific APECS Mailing lists, please contact apec...@gmail.com or visit: http://apecs.is/mailing-lists.

Thanks -
