how many of you actually use your APC Board ?

mine (8750)  has been used for about 10 mins and is now collecting dust under the bed  (if only the OS was actually stable id use it )

I use my 8750 nearly every day. Mostly for internet radio.

its a good board and unlike others it has proper mounting options but VIA/APC really let us down by not supporting operating system development then releasing a much better board that the 8750 should have been

maybe they should have an discounted upgrade for the rock if you allready have an 8750

on a side note , shouldnt the title of this group be "APC "Nano" itx board   not pico ?

I'm still working on it, and it's pretty usable if you don't need a GPU.

And with the kernel portage of Mr prisk, we have a nice 3.10 kernel with all drivers that came in, and the most important, possibility to compile drivers out of the box because it's a real kernel integration.

I'm talking about linux usage, because Android is a pain for this board.

Hi,

I didn't really use my 7850 at first, but now it has Apricot R3 on NAND and is acting as  Pulseaudio + MPD box (no graphic install) and should also evolve in multipurpose-I/O (control LED strips, power sockets, ...) and notification unit (with some electronics).

You could also use it as a NAS (for your USB HADD if you have any), mail server, webserver, ... It's a good linux board if you don't need the graphical interface. R3 was lacking some kernel drivers (and I didn't take the time to compile the kernel from source...), but I will try R5 =)

I have tired running X and using it with a 3D printer but it was quite slow to load the part in the printer interface, so I gave up.

That makes me remember: I have quickly deisgned a baseplate and a VESA mount for the APC, so it can be attached behind a TV or computer screen. The 7850 is not enclosed so it collects dust, but the cooling is better (and it's cheaper).... It's meant to be 3D printed. If you want it ,just tell me, I have completely forgotten to upload in on Thingiverse.

Hi RedoX,

First, I'm interested by your base-plate 3D model.

Second, I read that you want to try the R5, so I have to warn you that you couldn't install it on NAND. But, if you are interested you can use an NFS root, but that suppose a NFS server...

Hi,

I just uploaded the STL files on thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:110454
Ask if you need anything else ;)

I do have a Debian server at home so an NFS root is no big deal. Thanks for the warning ;)

i have two 7850 :
one with raspbian R3 on sdcard with mpd/alsa to play music in my garden, with arduino/RF433 to switch on/off garden light, sound amplifier and pool filter and with motion associated with a webcam.
the second one with raspbian on NAND and/or R5 on sdcard. This one is, for now, my 7850 development platform.
