Unofficial software download channels such as freeware download websites, free file hosting pages, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial pages, third party downloaders, and other similar channels can host malicious files.
Therefore, users who open files downloaded through such channels can inadvertently cause installation of ransomware or other malicious software. Third party installers can also cause these installations. Software 'cracking' tools are programs that supposedly bypass activation of licensed software free of charge, however, cyber criminals use them to spread malware.
