Here is our hugel-bet, framed on three sides with some big boards that used to have some farm function here.  The back side slopes gently down to a path on the other side.  It is partially complete , so you can still see some of the layers.  The side that is complete is seeded with clover and mulched very lightly with some of the wheat grass from around the garden.  There is  a volunteer winged sumac tree, still dormant, sticking up out of the bed.   The grape arbor is wrapped with wild grape vines from the woods' edge.  I hope that they will not cause any disease issues for the grape vines that we will be planting in a couple of weeks.  The reason I wrapped the poles with this is to keep the tender growth of new vines from being burned on the hot metal.  The general layout of the back yard is a spiral on a slope.  We left some natural dips and mounds andincorporated them into our layout of the back yard.  It is an approach more forgiving of error.

Not sure if you'll be able to see/read this, as I'm having difficulty with losing mid-post to the ether.   Sorry!

It is sweet.  She and her husband have two little boys to take care of and to share the garden with.  Things go slower when you work outside the home and when you are taking care of little ones.  You can't just throw them in a cage and come back later...but you can park them in front of a video!

Bill, What a rampage of deliciousness!   Thanks for posting your pictures -- would love to see/read more!

As for mine -- I think you have to click on my original viewable post and it opens up to show the picture.  Forgot to mention Matt installed that big tall pole found on the property in the back yard for some cascade hops (and for our helpful hawk patrol), and also we hope to be putting a couple of hammock posts in the grape arbor this weekend.  Important stuff :)

He watches our chickens and bathes in our kiddie pool.  But really, if he's going to hang around anyway and occasionally do some good, it might help if he didn't have to strain his neck so.  Look closely.

Yes, isn't it a crazy busy life?  I just try to breathe, sigh and move along enjoying it the best I can.  The best to you!
