SEO & .htaccess

Hi

I'm not all that familiar with .htaccess but what I would like to set
up (if possible) for many pages across a website is something like...

physcial file location could be

http://www.mywebsite.com/directoryname1/directoryname2/filename1.html

I would like a friendly URL for the above to be something like...

http://www.mywebsite.com/cool-directory/cool-file-name

Is the above possible?
