I want to create multiple subdomains that use one and the same php
application with different categories for each subdomain. For example,
a database holds articles for different categories.

The php application pulls the articles out of the database and formats
them depending on the category. The different subdomains should then
be used to display a category.

i hav already created different subdomains depending on category... i
dont want to replicate my application in all the subdomain...

how do i do it?

thnx

You can definately do this with mod_rewrite and .htaccess I will need
more info from you though about what exactly you are trying to
accomplish..

You could also try the forum at http://www.htaccesselite.com/htaccess/
for help..
