Jeremy Gilley had an incredible vision of creating a day when
people could start making peace. This was such a huge idea that it was
hard to know where to start. But Jeremy managed to find a way to talk
to people and bring this idea together. He traveled to countries that
were suffering from violence and talked about his idea of a day of
peace. This idea touched these people personally because they could
relate to pain that violence and conflict brings. He went to
Afghanistan and talked to the people there and they supported the day
of peace. There was a 70% decreased of violence on that day. What
surprised me the most was that the Talaban even agreed to be peacefull
on this day. Jeremy brought his idea to the UN and all of the heads of
the countries agreed to this day as a day of peace, which also
surprised me. I did not think that it would be that easy to get
everyone to agree on a day to have complete peace. I guess it reallly
speaks to the true nature of people. People want harmony in their
"group" and are willing to agree on a day to be peacefull as long as
others agree to it as well. Unfortunately the first year this peace
day would start and be released to the public was the year that 9/11
happened. It's ironic because that tradgic event was exactly what that
day was supposed to prevent. But it also inspired Jeremy to make his
vision came true even more than before. Now the public is becoming
aware of this day and he hopes that the younger people will support
his idea and make his vision of peace a reality. Once some people
start participating in th day of peace more will join and soon for at
least one day there will be international peace. I think this idea is
wonderful because if people can take one day to be peaceful it can
impact how we live out entire lives.
