Main Idea:But as the genre expands beyond its stereotypical audience of nerdy single fanboys it needs to expand its appeal accordingly.
Main Idea in my own words: Our generation of women are tired of seeing the girl always be the damsel in distress. Most of the time if you make the lead role a female, she can kick-but.

I agree with the author, Alexander, on this. Granted, I am not a usual fan of comic books, nor have i ever read one, I do think it is time for the superhero movies to start making the importance of women be known. If a movie made a woman the lead role and she was fighting and defending herself and a man, i guarantee there will be a much bigger audience. While yes it is cliche for the woman to always be the poor damsel in distress, i didn't see Peta having to save Katniss' but the whole movie. Did you? If the Hunger Games had a lead male who was the focus of the games, i would bet money that there wouldn't have been as big as an audience as there was. Woman are capable of defending and fighting for themselves. When there are these sleazy shows that degrade women to being helpless and stupid it takes away from the face that not all women are like that and we can sometimes come out on top. The audience would not only go up in women standards, but if you have a star such as Scarlett Johanssen, dressed in a tight costume while she is flip kicking and doing her thing, then i bet a lot more of the "stereotypical audience of nerdy single fanboys" going to watch them move around in their sexy attire. Every now and then, it is nice to see that a women can be played as the lead role in an action movie. Not only are women most of the time smarter,(duh) but they generally look better doing it too. I'm not an advocate for woman's rights or anything, I'm just saying i would more likely go to a action/superhero movie if a woman was the one who was kicking ass.
