Main Idea: “Scientists concluded that fruits and vegetables labeled organic were, on average, no more nutritious than their conventional counterparts, which tend to be far less expensive.”

MY Main Idea: Despite the higher price tags, the real difference between organic and non-organic produce is little to none; organic produce has no health benefits in comparison to the non-organic brand.

Before your mother goes to the supermarket and reaches for the pricey “ALL ORGANIC” brand, print out this article and show it to her; most likely she’ll be surprised. Scientists have recently discovered that organic produce and meats have no health benefit nor do they contain a greater risk to be infected with bacteria such as E. coli. I am surprised to hear this; I always pictured anything organic to be this “super food” that would give me all these health advantages. But in reality, we’re actually loosing, but it’s the money out of our pockets. Although, non-organic foods did have more traces of non-toxic pesticides, and organic milk did have more omega-3 fatty acids in it than non-organic. But the difference between the two is not a dramatic one. To me, I found this article to be quite interesting when all my life I was told organic foods were a great deal healthier than its competing non-organic cousin.
