I always use Joe Dassin's "Le petit pain au chocolat" when I teach the
imparfait vs. passé composé. Not a new song so it might not be what you're
looking for, but it's been very effective.

Make it extra credit on your exams - my students would have done just about anything for that! Just refigure the points on the exams to compensate if you need to. We had really hard exams with Bravo! (4) and Connaissances et réactions (5) so I didn’t need to do that. It was interesting that with the extra credit points the exam grades came out pretty close to their abilities (like A, B+ etc). I asked content questions in level 4 and 5, the only levels where we watched subtitled movies -- one film per 6-week grading period. I asked them in English but you could of course do it in French. Mostly I wanted them to watch the movie for the cultural aspects than learn vocab, etc. I also wanted them to develop the ability to watch and read subtitles at the same time. By the end of 5 many could tell when the subtitles were incorrect! My hope was that they would continue to watch French and/or foreign language films after HS.

Can anyone offer some suggestions as to how to hold AP students accountable with films? I seem to struggle with activities for films. I've had them stop and discuss, copy down certain vocab words or structures they hear.. but I am in need of new activities. Any help is appreciated - Merci, Kelly Simon

There is a wonderful French teacher, Judy Sugarman, who is now retired and running an excellent company called FilmArobics with a variety of great lesson plans and films in French and other languages as well, with all the lesson plans covering a range of skills! I’ve used “Entre les murs”, and tons of others. Check out their webpage to purchase, get on their mailing list, and just learn more! :
