Happy New Year!
Since the last meeting we have been working to ensure that community
education is on the political agenda by creating the new Community
Education Network manifesto. Collectively we can work together to
raise the voice of the sector and lobby.
The next meeting of the Network is Tuesday 26th January at 9.45am
(until 2pm) in the Carmichael Centre, Dublin 7. The agenda is on the
our website: http://www.aontas.com/commed/networkcen.html
This meeting will focus on: ‘Collective action and partnership work
for progressing community education’. As part of this we will have the
Principal Officer from the Further Education Section of the Department
of Education and Science, Seamus Hempenstall providing an input. In
order to utilize our time fully we would ask you to propose 1 question
to Seamus regarding the Department either in terms of how it
functions, the place of community education or how we can become
effective partners for progressing community education.
Please send your question to me by Wednesday 20th January.
This is a great opportunity to link in with the Department of
Education and Science and we hope that you can make this important
meeting.
Please book your place by Friday 22nd January – only those booked can
attend as space is limited.

The link in the previous email is the general one for the CEN section of the
website. The meetings details are usually under the CEN meetings sub-menu.

Kind regards,
Eleonora
would it be possible for us to get some small space at the CEN network
meeting to support a strategy of the National Community DEvelopment Forum
( NCDF)
Pobal are holding a conference on Life Long Learning, the last of three
regional ones, in the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham in the near future ( i
dont know the dates)
They have issued an invitation for the NCDF Forum to attend.
We are suggessting that we take the same approach to this conference that we
as a forum took to the National Economic and Social Forum before Christmas.
On that occassion a number of people registered for the Conference who were
in support of CDP issues and strcutures.
The forum presented a letter to the chairperson on the day re cuts to CDPs
etc and all those who attended the workshops carried the same message.
The initiative had some small success becasue Maureen Gaffney then put the
Minister under pressure about what was happening resulting in a national
meeting for CDP's with the Department.
The action we are propsoing to take is send conference details to all CDP' s
nationally and Forum members -and a broader group such as CEN.
People to register and make a contribution to the workshops explicitly
stating that Life Long Learning cannot be successful without the
contribution of CDPs.
I can provide more info as I get it in , but it is part fo the NCDF lobbying
starategy that we hope CEN members could support.
