Job Description:

Provides engineering inspections, evaluations, designs and
recommendations for a wide range of power plant equipment and systems
as related to electrical generating equipment. Recommendations are
based on analyses, calculations, and investigations into plant
problems, opportunities for improving performance, or to meet new
requirements. Develops or modifies system/equipment designs,
specifications and drawings to define the scope of retrofit and new
electrical related projects. Prepares budget estimates, performs
financial comparisons of solution alternatives. Assists or manages
electrical projects, construction, start-up and testing of systems for
approved projects. Assists operations and maintenance staff in root
cause analysis, repair evaluations and use of new technologies to
improve performance and reliability. Provides real-time process
evaluation and develops short-term and long-term solutions for
enhanced plant operation.


1. Reviews plant electrical related operational and equipment problems
that result in poor performance, reduced availability, loss of
efficiency, or loss of capacity; determines root causes, and proposes
and implements solutions to the problem areas.
2. Investigates and analyzes complex disturbances and failures and
identifies the causes. Develops and implements solutions.
3. Keeps abreast of latest electrical tests, designs and other
industry innovations.
4. Prepares cost and schedule estimates for new electrical projects.
5. Prepares project and technical specifications, and assures industry
and our company's electrical standards are addressed.
6. Prepares requisitions for materials, labor and engineering
assistance.
7. Assists with relevant input to the annual budget.
8. Manages electrical projects including supervision of contractors,
vendors, and consultants to assure projects are completed within
budget and schedule constraints.
9. Provides internal consultation to plant management, operations and
maintenance on a variety of electrical subjects.
10. May serve as Project Manager for several projects simultaneously.
11. Responsible for the "cradle to grave" project scope, including
cost, quality and schedule.
12. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and company safety and
environmental procedures, taking action to prevent noncompliance and
hazards. Promotes an attitude of commitment towards a safe work
workplace and environmental compliance, as well as demonstrating that
commitment to other departmental areas.

- Ten years experience with high voltage equipment in electric power
plant industry.
- Knowledge of power plant systems
- Fundamental knowledge of design, operation and inspection of
generators, motors, batteries, relays, circuit breakers, switchgear ,
transformers and field instrumentation
- Understanding of equipment testing, evaluation, calibration
techniques, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret piping and instrument diagrams (P&ID)
- Ability to work under pressure in a real-time environment
- Must have experience in providing technical support for large
electric power generation systems operations, maintenance, and / or
construction. Good oral and written communication skills required.
Frequent travel between our Mid-Atlantic and other facility locations
is required.
- Have a thorough understanding of electrical engineering principles
- Field experience and background with related power equipment,
systems, and plant performance is a plus.
- Requires understanding of power plant operations, including the
interrelationship of engineering with operation and maintenance
functions and familiarity with ASME Performance Test Codes, IEEE and,
NERC.
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Ability to provide direction to various operational and technical
crafts
- Strong planning capabilities and the skills to analyze and interpret
data to make sound recommendations to Management.
- Strong customer focus (internally & externally)
- Strong problem solving and organizational skill
- Able to stay detail-oriented in a fast-paced setting
- Able to accept & adapt to changing priorities
- Demonstrates initiative and adaptability
- Willingness to work off-hours as business needs dictate
- Possess a valid jurisdictional driver's license
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure
- Possess good hearing and vision
- Ability to wear a respirator and other job related personal
protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to meet (on an annual basis) appropriate physical
evaluations identified by Health and Safety as prerequisites to
performing certain task and training activities
