Electrical Engineer
Albany NanoTech (AlNT) seeks applicants for the position of Electrical Engineer for the University’s
rapidly expanding CESTM complex. This position will report directly to AlNT’s Facility Manager. The
Electrical Engineer will direct and manage all engineering services and disciplines involving
electrical systems, electrical installations, utilities, contracts, controls (integrate
instrumentation) and monitoring systems.
Job responsibilities include: Direct the planning of electrical related design and construction,
renovations projects, tool installations, and development, implementation, and maintenance of
operational, maintenance and building systems to ensure optimum use of capital assets. Additional
responsibilities include: initiation and maintenance of required contracts with key engineers,
organizations and companies; code compliance and proper practices of building systems; negotiation
of utility contracts and management of utility use (optimizing utility costs and implementing peak
savings programs); technical direction of associated staff; liaison with appropriate University
staff; establishment and implementation of appropriate capital renewal programs; and coordination of
tool installations.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and appropriate professional licensure. A
minimum of seven years of senior experience in the following areas: complex building management; new
building construction; renovations, expansions and project management; maintenance, operation and
design of building systems including demonstrated understanding of related disciplines such as
mechanical, process, automation, CAD architectural engineering, and building systems of HVAC,
mechanical, electrical distribution, building control and central automation, fire protection,
maintenance management systems; and preventative maintenance. Knowledge of the unique aspects of the
above areas as they relate to cleanroom components and operation is required. Knowledge of desktop
computing and relational database as well as experience with facility software implementation is
also required. Experience with a labor union working environment is desirable. The successful
candidate will have strong analytic, written and verbal communication skills, and the demonstrated
ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments, and must be a self-starter and adaptable to
change.
Albany NanoTech at the University at Albany - SUNY is the umbrella organization created by the
University to oversee, coordinate, and manage its critical programs in nanotechnology. Albany
NanoTech is a fully integrated research and development (R&D), technology transfer and education
mega complex, with a current asset base of $160M. This asset base is expected to expand to $500M
within the next year. Its physical infrastructure includes NanoFab 200, the only fully integrated
200mm wafer fabrication facility, NanoFab 300S, a $35M state of the art 118,000 sq. ft. laboratory
complex and NanoFab 300N, expected to be completed in December 2003 - a 228,000 sq. ft. research,
development and prototyping facility which will house a 35,000 sq. ft. cleanroom.
