Cleanroom Operations Manager
Albany NanoTech (AlNT) seeks applicants for the position of Cleanroom Operations Manager. This
position will report directly to Albany NanoTech’s Director of Programs and will direct the
cleanroom operations at the University’s rapidly expanding CESTM complex. The Cleanroom Operations
Manager will provide technical leadership and expertise for the management, development and
implementation of cleanroom operations. This position will be a hybrid of a production manager,
engineering manager and maintenance manager, which when combined must meet the requirements of
university and industry semiconductor and nanotechnology programs. This position will initially be
hands on and must provide leadership in the implementation stages of the cleanroom operations and
tool installation. Working closely with other technical support staff, external consultants and
industrial Program Managers, this position will ensure that the operation of the cleanroom
facilities are delivered to meet the highest standards and expectations of the high technology
industry.
Job responsibilities include:
Provide and manage cleanroom operations through application of proper code criteria; provide project
management, engineering and expertise to design, specify, and approve process and device creation
programs and tool unit operations; develop and control operations/maintenance procedures,
preventative maintenance systems and a complete operations protocol/guide for the cleanroom; review
and write technical program agreements for university and program clients, including material
specifications, components/tools, space management-planning for cleanroom operations; provide
technical and cost information for client proposals; provide cleanroom services for multiple
programs and customers; evaluate technical proposals from tool vendors and clients; and provide
guidance, direction, leadership and overall supervision of all cleanroom activities to ensure
cleanroom environmental compliance, safe operations and employee health within the cleanroom.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree with a preference in engineering and appropriate
professional licensure; a minimum of ten years of senior experience in the following areas:
Cleanroom / Fab operations and/or construction; previous semiconductor management experience
including direct knowledge of operational needs and business practices; a working knowledge and
understanding of all related disciplines such as device performance, unit operations, process
engineering, automation, and IT/CIM systems as well as business systems; and knowledge and
experience in applying/interpreting technical roadmaps and programs as well as specifications and
codes. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, written and verbal communication
skills, and the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments, and must be a
self-starter and adaptable to change.
Albany NanoTech at the University at Albany - SUNY is the umbrella organization created by the
University to oversee, coordinate, and manage its critical programs in nanotechnology. Albany
NanoTech is a fully integrated research and development (R&D), technology transfer and education
mega complex, with a current asset base of $160M. This asset base is expected to expand to $500M
within the next year. Its physical infrastructure includes NanoFab 200, the only fully integrated
200mm wafer fabrication facility, NanoFab 300S, a $35M state of the art 118,000 sq. ft. laboratory
complex and NanoFab 300N, expected to be completed in December 2003 - a 228,000 sq. ft. research,
development and prototyping facility which will house a 35,000 sq. ft. cleanroom.
