Facility Manager
Albany NanoTech (AlNT) seeks applicants for the position of Facility Manager of its NanoFab
facility. This position will report directly to AlNT’s Director of Programs and its Senior Engineer
and will serve as the chief engineer for multiple cleanroom facility operations at the University’s
rapidly expanding CESTM complex. The position will be the primary liaison with the appropriate
University facility staff. The Facility Manager will provide oversight for all cleanroom service
contracts and manage all cleanroom engineering and facility operations specific to the electrical,
mechanical, civil and structural areas.
Job responsibilities include: Management of building infrastructure areas (HVAC, plumbing, telecom,
data, electrical, facility customer client support); subcontracting and contract management;
development, implementation and the maintenance of all operational and building systems to ensure
optimum use of the capital assets. Additional responsibilities include: initiating and maintaining
extensive contacts with key engineers, organizations and companies; ensuring code compliance and
proper practices for operations of building systems; monitoring utility contracts and managing
utility use; supervising/providing direction of staff; establishing and implementing appropriate
capital renewal programs; and assisting with and coordinating tool installations.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and appropriate professional licensure. A
minimum of ten years of senior experience in the following areas: complex building management new
building construction; renovations, expansions and project management; maintenance, operation and
design of building systems including HVAC, mechanical, electrical distribution, building control and
central automation, CAD, fire protection, maintenance management systems; and preventative
maintenance. Knowledge of the unique aspects of the above areas as they relate to cleanroom
components and operation is required. Knowledge of desktop computing and relational database as well
as experience with facility software implementation is also required. Experience with a labor union
working environment is desirable. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, written and
verbal communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple
assignments. Must be a self-starter and adaptable to change.
Albany NanoTech at the University at Albany - SUNY is the umbrella organization created by the
University to oversee, coordinate, and manage its critical programs in nanotechnology. Albany
NanoTech is a fully integrated research and development (R&D), technology transfer and education
mega complex, with a current asset base of $160M. This asset base is expected to expand to $500M
within the next year. Its physical infrastructure includes NanoFab 200, the only fully integrated
200mm wafer fabrication facility, NanoFab 300S, a $35M state of the art 118,000 sq. ft. laboratory
complex and NanoFab 300N, expected to be completed in December 2003 - a 228,000 sq. ft. research,
development and prototyping facility which will house a 35,000 sq. ft. cleanroom.
