Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

Albany NanoTech (AlNT) seeks applicants for the position of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS)
Manager. This position will report directly to the ANT Director of Programs to serve as the chief
safety officer for the rapidly expanding CESTM complex. The EHS Manager will be directly responsible
for the development, implementation and monitoring of environmental controls and safety procedures
within the CESTM complex. This position will also be the primary liaison with the University’s
Health and Safety office.

Job responsibilities include:

Preparation of Operations Plans, HMIS/HMMP/EPA manifests and documentation for material used on
site; coordination with the University EHS officer; preparation of environmental permits; emission
compliance and ensuring compliance with the appropriate government regulations. The position will
recommend and implement operational procedures to ensure a clean work environment that is compliant
with semiconductor industry best practices. Other responsibilities include the development of EHS
systems; project management for design of state of the art industry facilities; interfacing with
clients, public authorities, suppliers, utility, construction and engineering firms; development and
control of environmental records and manifests; management of preventative maintenance systems on
life safety systems and equipment; and providing support to ensure appropriate safety protocols for
tool installations.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety Programs, or Industrial Hygiene and
appropriate professional licensure; a minimum of ten years of senior experience in the following
areas: Facility operations and design of building systems; EHS operations; experience with related
standards such as SEMI, NFPA, and environmental ordinances. The successful candidate must have
knowledge and experience in applying and interpreting all related safety specifications and codes.
Knowledge of the unique aspects of the above areas as they relate to cleanroom components and
operation is preferred. Knowledge of desktop computing and relational database as well as experience
with facility software implementation is also required. Experience with a labor union working
environment is desirable. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, written and verbal
communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments,
and must be a self-starter and adaptable to change.

Albany NanoTech at the University at Albany - SUNY is the umbrella organization created by the
University to oversee, coordinate, and manage its critical programs in nanotechnology. Albany
NanoTech is a fully integrated research and development (R&D), technology transfer and education
mega complex, with a current asset base of $160M. This asset base is expected to expand to $500M
within the next year. Its physical infrastructure includes NanoFab 200, the only fully integrated
200mm wafer fabrication facility, NanoFab 300S, a $35M state of the art 118,000 sq. ft. laboratory
complex and NanoFab 300N, expected to be completed in December 2003 - a 228,000 sq. ft. research,
development and prototyping facility which will house a 35,000 sq. ft. cleanroom.
