Job Description : Recognized as electrical engineering development leader
within division. Responsible for the strategic planning for the department,
aligning with business objectives. Provides leadership in the development of
new ideas, products, processes and techniques. Frequently plans, manages and
reports on the work of an organization and a budget in excess of $5 million
dollars. Facilitates and supports, through management and project teams, the
completion of complex projects or programs within boundaries of people,
quality, time and value. Based on significant technical expertise, reviews and
approves complex design concepts of technical staff. Provides technical
direction and coaching to staff. Fosters an environment of creativity and
innovation in completing divisional and cross-functional/business unit
responsibilities. Must be a creative problem solver with a distinct, proven and
obvious passion for innovation and for bringing successful new products to
market.
This section contains a list of five to eight primary responsibilities of this
role that account for 5% or more of the work. The incumbent will perform other
duties assigned. 1. Provides strategic planning leadership by setting
strategies and priorities based upon anticipation and application of business
priorities, industry trends and emerging technologies. 2. Create and
communicate global vision of the organizationscontribution to the business
unit/division goals, ensuringindustry leadership. 3. Maximize the effectiveness
of internal and external resources (business unit and cross-business unit) to
meet business objectives. Manage the boundaries that separate groups which
report directly and with other parts of the business. Deploy and redeploy
resources among Electrical Engineering groups/projects. 4. Direct the
functional development that supports new product development teams and
implementation of processes requiring new technologies from Exploratory through
Product Support phases. Responsible for identifying technology roadmaps,
competency matrices and core competency development for the electrical
engineering function. 5. Using broad knowledge and experience in
cross-functionalactivities, coach project leaders and/or functional managers to
coordinate and direct activities of teams and individual contributors to ensure
market dominance in appropriate product lines. 6. Organize, select/recruit,
train/coach and lead the Electrical Engineering management team, holding
first-line managers accountable for managerial work. Create and maintain an
environment where team members experience personal and professional growth,
resulting in fully responsible and accountable teams. 7. Responsible for
functional approval on product/process documentation. 8. Review and approves
proposals to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify
expenditures. Presents proposal to senior management for consideration,
prioritization and allocation of funds. Responsible for preparation of
departmental budgets and project cost estimates up to multi-million dollar
range. Directs all functional project expenditures and cost tracking,
monitoring, reporting and taking corrective action, as necessary. 9. Provide
electrical resource planning leadership to ensure adequate resources are
available to complete all business unit and division responsibilities and that
the skills/experience mix is aligned to meet future product, technology and
business opportunity needs. Plans/vision will extend a minimum of two years
beyond the current fiscal plan. 10. Head coach and lead evangelist in deploying
quality-, reliability- and speed-to-market-enhancing methods such as rapid
prototyping, DFMA, FMEA, simulation and automated testing capabilities that
enhance the robustness of fault-tolerant medical devices. 11. Lead competitive
product analysis and evaluations. Contribute to acquisition analysis.
1. Must possess foundational knowledge of electrical engineering disciplines
including circuit design, simulation and analysis, systems engineering. 2. Must
be an expert in leading the electrical design of medical infusion pumps or
similar FDA conforming equipment with a proven track record. Must have
experience designing a range of electro-mechanical devices (preferably devices
w/ embedded software). Must have experience in using and deploying quality-,
reliability- and speed-to-market-enhancing processes such as DFR, DFMA, FMEA,
rapid prototyping, etc. Must have the following experience; analog, digital and
hybrid circuit design methodologies. Must be experienced w/ the following;
materials selection (plastics, metals), mfg. processes, mechanisms, complex
assemblies, plastic molded parts, pneumatics, die castings, metal injection
molded parts, powdered metal parts, aluminum extrusions, stampings, metals
finishing, machined parts, rubber parts, springs, seals. Power transmission
component experience (for ex, leadscrews, belts, bearings, cams, clutches,
gears, pulleys, lubrication, etc.)Experience with precise positioning systems
and controls. Human Factors Engineering experience (including ergonomic design
and customer feedback). Industrial Design experience (for example, integration
of hardware into sleek, aesthetic, ergonomic yet fully functional and practical
designs). Experience leading cross functional teams for remote production start
up (for ex, in the far east such as Singapore) 3. Ability to establish
long-range business plans which anticipate global trends, technical, economic
and socio-political conditions. 4. Demonstrate understanding of business
drivers, customer needs and global dynamics to create viable strategic plans.
5. Proven, minimum five year track record of management/leadership
effectiveness, demonstrable through both talent/team enhancements and
successful new product design releases. 6. Must possess strong ability/aptitude
to negotiate, inspire and influence others internally and externally. Good
verbal, written and presentation skills are required. 7. Experience using
formal technical problem solving, safety & risk control tools (ie. FMEA, hazard
analysis, risk analysis, fault tree analysis, redundant safety architecture).
8. Experience interfacing (integration) w/ all aspects of people and cross
functional teams involved in new product development including those from;
Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Mfg., Disposables Engineering, Project
Management, Designers/Technicians, Testing, Marketing & Sales, Purchasing,
Vendors and Customers.
1. BSEE plus advanced degree (i.e., MSEE, MBA or equivalent experience).
2. Fifteen or more years of experience in designing related mechanical
equipment.
3. Five or more years of technical management experience in a significant
product development leadership role that includes working with cross-functional
teams, resource and budget management and strategic development experience.
4. A proven track record of having successfully lead teams from product
conception through to production & distribution and product support.
5. Evidence of creative design (including patents and technical awards)
Candidate Must Have :
BSEE plus advanced degree (i.e., MSEE, MBA or equivalent experience).
Fifteen or more years of experience in designing related mechanical equipment.
Five or more years of technical management experience in a significant product
development leadership role that includes working with cross-functional teams,
resource and budget management and strategic development experience.
