You have to have AOL to use AOL chat rooms my suggestion is to use the
chat rooms on www.yahoo.com the chat rooms on yahoo are better i've had
AOL members tell me so plus with yahoo you get e-mail,forums,instant
messenger(does more than AOL's does),a personalized web page and more a
membership is required FREE, plus in yahoo chat your little :) look like
actual smiley faces other web chat sites are as follows....

www.taponline.com -college oriented chat rooms not many users
www.excite.com -Yahoo's competition lots of people
www.swoon.com -run by Details,GQ and Glamour magazines
www.talk.com -run by Hotwired must be computer literate
www.delphi.com -not bad but not many users...YET
www.flirt.com -for the singles crowd
www.open24.com -run by ichat this & flirt require a browser plug in the
rest use java

there are a lot more just do a web search for web chat.Plus you always
have the mighty the Godlike IRC.IRC is the ULTIMATE place to chat but be
wary some IRC servers ban AOL and some frown on WebTV users some people on
IRC tend to be elitest and will laugh at you when you claim that you can
do a DNS to root out their IP.Stick with Yahoo! chat you won't get
bored.IRC requires software ask WebTV for details.
If you have friends that use AOL they like anyone else can use yahoo chat
like i said a lot of AOL users prefer Yahoo chat.If you use yahoo and have
problems there is a new user area or just look for a guy named sprydle.
I'm not here to upset AOL users they should already be upset because AOL
has the potential to become much more than what it is and it's really sad
to see such potential go to waste.Well Netscape & Sun are AOL's partners
now so things could change soon.

me

P.S.Since AOL.com is becoming a portal site like yahoo and excite AOL IM
users maybe allowed to chat in aol rooms using that software however when
portals first came around Steve case said publicly that portals wouldn't
last and now the top 5 sites are portals.

You have omitted to mention the countless other talk systems, some of
which were established long before Yahoo, such as talkers, mushs, muds,
moos, mucks... in fact too many varieties to mention. All of these
provide much richer facilities than AOL and Yahoo. There is so much to
choose from so there is something to suit all tastes.

That's true but most AOL users prefer a really easy to use format with chatting
which is why i recommended the portals remember the old expression "don't get
stuck in a moo?" :'p
i still prefer EFNET using mIRC meself.
