I've managed to patch AoK-TC so it works on higher/widescreen
resolutions.

All files (shots, uncompressed exe, patcher, sources in cleartext and
hg repo) are to be found at:

This looks promising. I'll try it when I assemble my nb back. Reviewed
the code so far and looks nice.
Anyway check sources of ModWorkshop at
http://aok.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/aokcgi/display.cgi?action=st&fn=4&tn=38605&f=4,38605,0,0&st=0,
it implements SLP manipulation or check attached SPL description file as
well. Maybe it can help you with RLE in SLP.

The slp.txt will help. Now I'll just have to figure out how, where, to stretch the image horizontally!
Thanks a lot!

Another question: I know assembler (x86) the language, but not much about disassembling and reassembling. For some of the widescreen stuff, I think it might be necessary to change to code rather than just occurrences of 1280 or 1024 (and the likes). Does any one of you know of tooling to do so? I know PE.Explorer can disassemble (paid version), but how would I re-assemble it into a working exe after modifications?

You may want to try OllyDbg v1.10 (http://www.ollydbg.de/), it might
help you with changing assembler code of the program. Once you finish
changing the code, just close it, and OllyDbg will ask you to save it
with all the modifications, asking you for a new filename for your
changed version of the file.
