Hi! I have been on large doses of various SSRIs over the last decade. I
do know that weight gain is a side effect. My activity and food
consumption has changed little over these years and I have gained
weight. It did level off, but I can't
get rid of it. My helpful doctor said I should exercise twice as hard.
I am not ready to return to running marathons at age 53. Any
suggestions ? I am a male if it makes any difference.
5'10" 183 lbs (used to be 160).
Thanks !

ssri tells me that you are prone to depression - that true? depression
is also linked to hypothyroidism - which also leads to weight gain and
fatigue. a natural ssri that is useful is 5-htp - or as recent reports
just stated - which cracks me up - vitamin b's are useful for
depression - which is very old news - good docs have been using vit b's
for years to treat depression. of course one cannot stop their meds
without doctor's permission and say so - especially with ssri's - but
do look into natural alternatives and the cause of your depression -
nutritional deficiency, hypothyroid, work situation - when did your
depression start?? why? dont just treat it - find out why it started
and remove that cause.

weight gain - dietary changes - more soda? more refined sugars? more
processed foods?? poor digestive function? hypothyroid?

i provide a free service for health questions on my site,
http://www.healthegoods.com if there is anything that i can provide
you with - let me know. i can provide you with info but cannot
diagnose or treat. im a 3rd yr med student. on the site there is also
a blog which is updated every 3rd day or so with information. my
contact info is on the web - dont want to post it here - the email
above is not it.

good luck out there -

in health,
ben

Hello Sam,

I'm on 40 mgs of Paxil. I've been able to lose on Paxil, but it's definitely more difficult. I read that omega 3 oils(and I'm not sure why) can minimize your weight gain while on Paxil.
