Hello everyone,
With elections coming up, I wanted to send a special fall message to
all of you on this listserv...
As a preface... I have my deep-rooted concerns and critiques about our
political system. While I have always voted, I haven't really ever
felt it mattered. Injustice still abounds, and the ever-growing
economic gap between rich and poor is wiping away any notions of a
'growing middle class.' I generally feel politicians are confined to
a system that is running itself and its people into the ground. Right
or wrong, it's how I feel.
Where I find real hope and pure inspiration in the grassroots
community organizing I hear about through the grapevine, that I
witness in DC as well. In individuals who are passionate about change
on all levels -- from the social to their personal lives and
relationships. These are the things that will save us.
All this being said, for some reason, this year I actually want to
vote for a candidate. I'm hopeful in a way I have never been about a
candidate. That candidate being Barack Obama. And for some reason, it
matters to me that others vote too.
So I decided to join a small effort of folks who are registering new
voters in VA this Saturday and the next. If you are interested in
pitching in -- be it donating money towards our transportation costs,
helping contribute food, or coming along feel free to contact me.
I've included the info below.
The other posting is, well I'm in the beginning stages of developing a
new piece. "Classlines." Commissioned by the Creative Communities
Initiative and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. It will
be writing, video, photography and audio mixed together -- oh and
audience participation as well. It is a veritable experiment, playing
with forms about a topic that can be hard to talk about.

VOTER REGISTRATION IN DEEP VA
Come help register new voters in VA before the October 6th deadline.
I'm going on the Saturday day trip with about 10 people to Fluvanna,
Nelson and Albermarle counties in VA, about 2.5 hours outside of DC.
Email me at
anu...@gmail.com if you need a ride. If people can get
there on their own this weekend they should contact County Co-
Organizer Andrew Ingram:
andrew...@gmail.com.
In the last elections only 15% voted. If those numbers increased it
would make a big difference. What we need are donations to help cut
our gas & food costs, and volunteers to come with us, artists
interested in donating their services for sponsoring fundraisers, and
2 ice boxes.
