Many of you are on this list because of my debut work of 'Capers, about the stories of public housing families protesting the demolition of their homes. I began that play in 2004 and it's been a great ride since then.
This January, 10 years later, I'm debuting:
MEENA'S DREAM, about a young girl Meena whose mother cannot afford the medicine she needs, and who goes on a fantastical quest to face her fears. Hindu God Lord Krishna needs her help to defeat the nefarious 'Worry Machine.' Meena must reclaim her courage and still dream of a world where everyone has enough.
It's fictional. With movement. Live music that includes South Indian classical to jazz to indie folk. It's a wild outgrowth of my recent grad school training and reflections on how our janky economic system impacts how we see ourselves. Still one actress (me) but now, three incredible musicians too.
I invite you to support the play in any of three ways:
1) COME SEE THE PLAY
It's at Forum Theatre January 8-18 in DC. You around? With 126 seats and 9 performances, that's 1,134 seats. Theater is oh-so-much better when the seats are PACKED with lotsa different kinds of people from all walks of life together in one room. Will you help us fill them? And stay for conversation afterwards!
Plus, half of all of the tickets are pay-what-you-want. So drop a dollar and get a seat!
2) CONTRIBUTE to the Indiegogo campaign:
We want to raise $16,000 by the end of January for a high-quality video and music album/soundtrack, to build towards a national tour. Whoa. Did I just write that? Never done this before, so it's a new adventure. Scary and fun. So will you contribute?
Whether it's $5 or $500, every dollar matters, for real.

Officially launched it on my birthday on Sunday (I turned 36, a great number).
Asking for support is important and a vulnerable thing for an artist. I invite you to join me with joy and celebration to this campaign!
3) TELL YOUR FRIENDS!
If you believe in the work I do, then consider spreading the word. I believe this play can catalyze great dialogue around healthcare, faith, poverty and childhood dreaming.
The film crew is preparing, the musicians are incredible, and the entire 3 year process of this play has been continual acts of synchronicity. From performing in Delhi to an audience that included family I hadn't seen in 10 years, to reuniting with my longtime collaborator Patrick Crowley for the Forum premiere, it's been gift after gift after gift. Life hasn't been without its hardships along the way, but this play has helped me through in powerful ways. I hope it can help others too.
So come. Contribute. And bring buddies.
If you come, stop by afterwards, say hello. Email me. Post on Facebook. I welcome all the conversation I hope this play can support.
