Hello everyone,
I am delighted to announce that this week the Thursday Seminar warmly welcomes our very own Seth Lazar, who will be presenting on June 11th, 3.30pm, in the RSSS Auditorium (room 1.28). Title and abstract are below.
While there will be no pre-talk this week, other events in the day include:
- Tea in the School of Philosophy tearoom at 3:00pm;
- Drinks at Badger & Co at 5:00pm;
- Dinner at TBD at 6.30, half-subsidized for grad students. Put your name down here if you would like to join (you need to scroll to the right). All visitors (faculty, graduate students, undergraduates) are welcome to join for dinner. Faculty dine at a rate of ~$30.00 AUD, and graduate students and undergraduates at a rate of roughly $15.00 AUD.
Title: Normative Competence in Language Models: Why it Matters, How Far We've Come, and How to Make Progress
Abstract: This is going to be a *loose* talk presenting the motivation for and, if there's time, the results of a series of experiments we've been doing in the MINT lab to both understand and enhance LLMs' ability to identify and apply reasons for action grounded in morality and other kinds of norms.
Finally, I want to note that we have a very exciting and relatively packed schedule from now through to the end of August, outlined below.
Hope to see many of you this Thursday!
