Hello everyone,

Fritz Breithaupt is in town for a couple of days as a guest of MINT Lab. Some of you know Fritz. For those of you who do not, Fritz runs the Experimental Humanities Lab at the University of Pennsylvania. He is both a humanities scholar and a cognitive scientist who works on narratives, empathy, and aesthetics.  His last two books are The Narrative Brain (Yale UP, 2025) and the Dark Sides of Empathy (Cornell UP, 2019) and he has another forthcoming book on how we have or “make” experiences (2026).

He has kindly agreed to have a discussion session tomorrow, Friday, 11.00AM-12.00PM in Seminar room 6.71 to discuss some of his work. No reading is required, but for those interested, the paper attached below is a good primer for some of the topics Fritz will be talking about in this session. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Best,
Osman.
