Hello all, I have a question about the text of the ANTLR v2 license. My apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask it.
I'm a participant on the SPDX legal team, where we maintain the SPDX License List [1]. The license list has had an entry for the ANTLR v2 license [2]. That entry consists of the first two paragraphs of the "ANTLR 2 License" from the ANTLR website.
An SPDX community member recently noted that ANTLR's page for the ANTLR 2 License [3] contains more than just these first two paragraphs. Based on research in the Wayback Machine [4], it looks like the third and fourth paragraphs were added sometime after the SPDX entry was created. We're planning to create a separate License List entry to reflect the updated license text [5].
My question to the ANTLR developers is: for the new entry, which of the two new paragraphs should be included as comprising the "license text"? I believe it should be the following, but I wanted to get the community's input before proceeding:
- Include paragraphs 1 and 2, as before
- Also include paragraph 3, which grants the fallback copyright license where public domain may not be available
- Do not include paragraph 4, describing other parts of the tools that are under other licenses (BSD-3-Clause, GPL-3.0-or-later). These do not appear to be part of the ANTLR-license-specific text, but rather a reference to other licenses that apply to certain parts of the v2 tools.
Does this align with your expectations here? Grateful for any input, and thanks again for your time.
Best,
Steve Winslow
