Subject: Loop holes in tourist rooming house permits
Deer Lake Board memebers,
Not a professional letter writter and cannot get auto spell to work on my County email..
I presented a problem/loop hole to the ESC board supervisors of Polk County over the last few months during public hearings on shoreland ordinaces , they have not forward this to a final draft due to no other public comments have brought this issue up as a concern.
Loop holes that exist in our tourist rooming house permits.
I presented a propsal to the Enviormnetal Services Committe concerns from Balsam Lake Rehab District members are seeing a disturbing pattern. Balsam Lake has recently seen properties being purchased to be developed as a commercial lodding /event center right next to your cabin .
I have proposed a change of max of 8 occupents to these permited tourist rooming house.
Currewntly allowed is 2 occupents per bed room. Polk County Health dept has a very simple process that determines a legal bed room and then the owner of the property can develop in most case under the radar a interior remodel with additional bed rooms and then appy for a large scale sewer system based on bed rooms approved by Health Dept. , then either holding tanks or a conveltional system can be permited. No over sight or notification to adjacent property owners or lake districs. They will recieve a tourist rooming house with as many as 20 or 30 occupents can and is currently allowed.
The committe seems to need a nudge from constiuents to take this serious and not allow this to continue on the lakes, they wound not allow in town next there house, pepole renting by the weekend , craming 20 to 30 pepole in one home purely for profit . I belive this will have a negative affect on the lakes for the future more then any other shoreland issue that we all currently face .
You have my permission to forward this email to other local Lake Districs and Home Owners Associations in Polk County , need to have written or public comments at the upcoming County meetings in Feb or contact committe memebrs directly .
Im availble for more detail on this issue if anyone has questions.
