Hello from Sir Brand, Deputy for Inspirational Giving (DIG).
re: Update on 'Rent-a-Tent' and "Techies for the Dream" proposals.

We got a good deal of positive response of interest for "Rent-a-Tent".
Some very touching, as in the gentle who said they haven't been to a
camping event in years, because of the rigors of setting up camp and
their back condition. Such a service as Rent-a-Tent would see them
coming back to camping events. A service, a fundraiser, an ability to
let others play that otherwise couldn't... wow, seems win - win - win
to me :-)

So, I have begun talking about the Rent a Tent area with the May Crown
folks... obviously many details left, such as liability, how to
coordinate and getting help to set it all up, etc. BUT, keep your eye
out if you are going to Crown in May, have an extra Pavilion/Tent and
want to help raise funds for An Tir.

Iten #2: "Techies for the Dream" aka An Tir Video Corps (suggested
name: Tabellae Somes, Latin for 'Document Corps', if my translator is
accurate) GOAL: To record, edit and broadcast events and talents of
our Lands so people far away can see what's going on here.

Idea: Right now, events are made up of people who can show up. Seems
kinda obvious, I know. But there are many more people in this Kingdom
than can come to any one event.

People obviously are interested in who wins the various Tournaments,
who got what awards, who got put on Vigil, etc. We obviously have
heavy duty tech folks to whom Terabytes are a good beginning and
downloads should be counted in mini-micro-seconds.

Could we: Establish an Internet Radio/Video station to stream
content to folks who can't be at an event? Could this Station play the
songs of An Tirian musicians, tales from our storytellers and sounds
from the Bardic Circles... done in real time???
Can we: Record a Herald, after a Court, quickly going through Court
Business, reading all the 3X5 Cards like a News Anchor, then broad
cast that?
What if: Crown Tourney could be edited down to a 10 minute YouTube
from a 3 hour tourney, on the day of that Tourney and broadcast?
How about: Our best teachers, jewelers, weavers, armorers, etc.,
teaching a technique, a dance, a talent. Then making that video
available to all of An Tir, the rest of the SCA, modern school
teachers and their classes... worldwide?

Does this idea appeal to anyone out there? Is it "Tech-ing the Dream"
too much? We don't mind cameras at events and happily pose for
pictures... would having the event broadcast be cool, or
problematic??? Permission Waivers? Media Deputy Territory?

Input, ideas, first impressions?
I think this would be of service, helping bind us as a Kingdom even
more, enabling people to share as much as possible what they cannot
travel to.
Cyber Kingdom? Ill or Well, I am interested in your thoughts.

In service, Brand. DIG

Hello, Brand-
I think both pathways are great ideas.
On the rent-a-tent- I don't think liability would be a major issue- if
it does occur, revolving around the rental of tents, we could actually
do a 'setup the camp' service, with people bringing their own tents,
and the volunteers setting up and taking down the camp

Likewise, I think a video broadcast is a GREAT idea! I seriously doubt
having something on YouTube would keep people at home. We have a very
large kingdom, and traveling to Crown events can be costly- as it is,
even learning the results of Crown events is basically word of mouth,
and not posted officially anywhere (to my knowledge) Having videos
posted, keeping people apprised of what's going on in a tourney via
Twitter, all of it is really great community outreach.
I'd be happy to be part of getting that going- we could even get it
started a Twelfth night, with that quick Herald Summary announcing
awards, showing some of the entrants to Kingdom A&S in March, etc.
Kind of building up to May Crown.
If there was some way to use the An Tir website, and have a page for
the posting of videos, twitter link, etc. OR set up another url
specifically for AnTir news, we could get people used to checking it.

I don't have a video camera (yet) but there are a lot of people who
do. I have a small netbook we could use onsite to update Twitter/
Facebook entries. I do understand why you want to build some interest/
consensus about this, and using the official An Tir website would
require a lot of hoops. I don't see any reason why we can't get it
started by creating informative but unofficial Twitter or Facebook
entries, announce through various forums/lists what we're doing and
let it grow from there. People could log all sorts of information onto
the social networks from whatever event they're attending-we just need
to set up the Twitter and Facebook accounts.
