RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
The purpose of this project (acronym “Radio-Past”), funded by the EC
via its Marie Curie Academia Industry program (http://cordis.europa.eu/
fp7/mariecurieactions/iapp_en.html), is to develop methods for the non-
destructive survey of complex archaeological sites (www.radiopast.eu).
This will be partly achieved by way of an intensive case study aimed
at investigating the topography of the Roman city site of Ammaia in
Portugal. The postholder will apply different approaches of geophysics
for archaeology to map and evaluate the microtopography and relevant
archaeological structures of this site. He/she needs to be able to
digitally integrate all results obtained from different field
techniques, analyse them within a GIS environment and propose an
archaeological interpretation.
Candidates are requested to hold a PhD in archaeology, remote sensing
or geophysics applied to archaeology (or 4 years equivalent
experience) and have extensive experience in geophysical survey of
Mediterranean landscapes. Requested are especially good understanding
of geophysical data caption and processing, integration with remote
sensing, and having excellent IT and topography skills. The post is
tenable immediately for a period of 15 months.
As the recruitment is inserted in the Marie Curie Actions Mobility
scheme, candidates can be all nationals but Portuguese.

CONTRACT TYPE : temporary ; 15 months starting June 1st 2010.
SALARY: according to Experienced Researcher’s yearly allowance (53,000
euro per Portugal’s Country Correction factor (= 91,4%; taxes to be
deducted); travel expenses, mobility allowance and career exploratory
allowance are also provided. Relationships between Uevora and the
Researcher will be ruled according to Annex III of the Grant Agreement
of IAAP People Actions (Specific Provisions, downloadable at:

HOLIDAYS - 30 days.
RELOCATION Part of the work will be executed Ammaia, in the region
Portalegre, the rest at the University of Evora. A suitable relocation
scheme is provided.

Continuing its commitment toward public accessibility for its
world-renowned collection of over 80,000 objects, the Petrie Museum of
Egyptian Archaeology has formed a partnership, 3D Encounters, with the
Ireland-based multimedia company IET (�omh�nna �igipteach Teoranta) to
develop high-end 3D scanning, modelling and presentational resources.
The aim is to digitally record themed selections of objects and make
them more accessible by telling their �stories�, beginning with the
concept Face to Face. Thanks to the partnership, the museum now has its
own 3D scanner, provided from Arius 3D in Canada by 3D Encounters.
Scanning of objects, carried out by Ivor Pridden, is now well under way
and curatorial input is being provided by Margaret Serpico. During your
visit, you will have a chance to hear more about the aims and priorities
for the project and to speak to both Margaret and Ivor.
