This is a very basic line diagram for getting started. Nearly everything in Putting it all together can be applied to this year as well. For splice connections, make sure to insulate the wire to avoid shorting the system.

Don't be concerned that the red servo wire is not connected to the ESC. I imagine that the 3-wire, was some sort of cost saving measure by the manufacturer. Many ESCs are just white(signal)/black(ground) servo pair.

Thank you for the diagram that is very helpful. One thing that I am confused on is how to connect the small red wire that we will be splicing to the ESC. It did not come attached on any of them.

Just to make sure we are on the same page, could you upload a pic of the ESC board and wires? I was operating under the impression that the white, red, black servo wires were already connected to the ESC board.

That being said, assuming that is true the connector looks approximately like this:

There are a few options for splicing

1) Cut the end off, strip the wire, solder the 4:1 connection (all 4 (black or red) esc wires, to the wire from the pdb). Insulate the joint with heatshrink, electrical tape, or electrical paste, and call it good.
This is my personally preferred method, since you will be soldering on the bullet connectors anyway.

2) Purchase the right type of 4:1 assembly.
Adds unnecessary weight and cost IMO, but will work if you get crafty on the signal (white) wires.

A couple examples

3) Get really creative and get a JR connector pack and build whichever combo you need. example

In any situation, I'm happy to run you or anyone else reading through it.
