I especially like the bit about how, "a colloquium is what happens at a coffee shop every day." If it is "just a group of folks talkin' bout a book they's tried ter read," then perhaps a pretentious term like "colloquium" isn't as accurate as "book club," or "gab hour."

What's happening here, is a school of salesmen (not statesmen) hawking their "goods" like a glossy red sports car with a turkey under the hood instead of an engine. They bundle and package (at an inflated price) an "education" that is noncompetitive, far from comprehensive, politically biased and socially distorted. Behind the shiny wrapping paper is nothing, no substance. Our beef is this... You misrepresent yourselves!

I listened to it. I'm so glad they're trying to help me expand my
"little range of knowledge"

The whole thing is entirely laughable. A group of shoddily educated laymen sitting around in a cum-bi-ah circle pretending to be intellectual high society, it's like Steven Hawking trying to build a house, some people just don't have what it takes and should drop the act. On another note, it does have entertainment value.
