We invite all students of Department of Anthropology for screening of
the Documentary film:

Tales from the jungle: Margaret Mead
At: 2.30 pm
On: 14-10-2011
Venue: Seminar Hall (Department of Anthropology)

Abstract of this Documentary film:
This Documentary is basically exploring the work of Margaret Mead,
this film investigates the 12 months Mead spent with the Samoans in
1920’s. Her resulting book, Coming Of Age In Samoa, had a huge impact
on Western culture. Mead believed cultures like the Samoans could
teach people how to live in harmony. Her book depicts a society of
free love -- devoid of jealousy and teenage turmoil. But, decades
later, her work was criticized by “Derrick Freeman” as being tainted
by her romantic views and strong belief in liberal values. Tales From
The Jungle examines whether Mead's study was merely misinterpretation
and romantic wishful thinking.

Dear Forum Organizers,

14-15 Oct 2011 there is a conference at the Social Science School, on the Status of Social Sciences. It would be a positive sign to see a number of Anthropologists participate in the seminar. I request you to postpone the film to another day. The film is very interesting and we can watch it together, I dont want to miss either.

Regards,

Alok
