Jamie Shenton

Legislating the Crisis: Moral Panics, Parental Rights, and the Politics of Inclusive Education in Kentucky

Jamie Shenton is associate professor of anthropology at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. She is a cultural anthropologist specializing in medical anthropology, gender and sexuality, ethnographic methods, and comparative perspectives on U.S. and world cultures, especially Latin America. Her current research examines parenting, LGBTQ+ youth, and education politics in Kentucky. Shenton is a contributor to the edited volume The Shaman in the Flash Drive and Other Explorations in Indigenous Media Engagement in Latin AmericaHer scholarly articles have appeared in journals such as Anthropological QuarterlyPublic AnthropologyJournal of Cultural Analysis and Social Change, and Cultural Dynamics. She has published several op-eds and other public-facing essays in Anthropology NewsSAPIENS, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and Ms. Magazine.
