On behalf of the Anthropologists and Sociologists of Kentucky (ASK), I would like to remind you to please consider submitting a paper, poster, panel, roundtable, or workshop for our 57th annual meeting on April 11, 2026! Professionals in anthropology, sociology, all related disciplines, and any excellent students of these disciplines are welcome. The abstract submission deadline is this Friday, March 20th, 2026.
The ASK meeting will take place on the campus of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Details regarding the call for papers and the submission portal link are attached to this email.
Your registration fee will cover parking, light breakfast, coffee/tea, and lunch.
Keynote speaker: Dr. Kaelyn Wiles, Centre College
“Scrolling Alone: Technology and the Digital Roots of Disconnection”
Dr. Kaelyn Wiles is Associate Professor of Sociology at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. She specializes in the sociology of health and illness, environmental sociology, political sociology, and the sociology of technology. Her scholarly articles have appeared in journals such as Social Theory and Health, Sociological Focus, Science as Culture, and Agriculture and Human Values. Her current research project, "The Lonely Campus," investigates the structural causes of loneliness in undergraduate students post-COVID-19. She draws on over 120 interviews collected by students in 2024 and 2025. Dr. Kaelyn Wiles will talk about the design of this research project, and she will share some of her findings about how digital technologies have not only shaped students’ daily routines, but also their connections and communities.
